Strawberry acai with no water, ice, or inclusions (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by barista19471057
I got three grande strawberry acai's with no water, ice, or inclusions with 4 grande frappuccinos and one venti hot white mocha in the same order at my bar today. I looked at my SM and asked what they wanted me to do about it - normal base amount or fill the cup? She had me fill the cup. It took an entire box. I feel like you shouldn't be able to do that. Or have it at least charge you for extra base. I don't know it's super stupid and I hated every second of making it. Of course, it was a delivery too 🙄
Edit:
Thank you so much for the award! It was my first one ❤️❤️

Oh but don’t worry cause now we’re getting ✨4x concentrate refreshers✨ so it won’t take a whole box to fill a trenta
barista19471057 [OP] 14 points 2y ago
Okay what? Do you mean the concentrate is getting stronger or a bigger box?
445143 41 points 2y ago
Pretty sure it’s both bigger boxes and twice as strong. We’re going to have to pre-dilute to its regular concentration it in a 2L pitcher like with the lemonade.
barista19471057 [OP] 64 points 2y ago
Oooooooh. Horrifying. More work.
445143 82 points 2y ago
And even less space at cold bar 😔
givemeapples 17 points 2y ago
I'm super excited about this!! I get annoyed at people who order no water no ice refreshers. Now we have no choice but to deny them the no water part :)
445143 14 points 2y ago
Well they can still get it no water. We’re diluting to the same concentration it currently is to avoid having to change the shakers and how the drink is made.
YoungLady24 4 points 2y ago
We’re gonna have to mix em like we do lemonade mocha and sweet cream
TherudestLiz 2 points 2y ago
So THIS is what my SM was talking about with the refreshers!! I was busy making one with a headset on and she was trying to tell me while I had customers and DTO talking lol lol. That sort of sucks...we don’t have the space! We already empty our Strawberry refresher into pitchers during peak to try to go a little faster, but we keep 3 pitchers of sweet cream and 3 of lemonade in the fridge idk how we will fit pitchers of refresher as well....especially as much as we go through.
445143 3 points 2y ago
We’re getting rid of peach and guava pitchers and keeping them in the boxes in the fridge, and the prepped pitchers will be good for 72 hours at ambient temperature, so we’re supposed to be keeping them up with the teas and water.
I guess we could have ambient backups made and chilling with the tea backups since we’ll likely go through them fast enough?
TherudestLiz 2 points 2y ago
Our store is due for a ‘refresh remodel’ this spring/summer/fall (whenever it happens basically) so hopefully this will help fix our space issues a little. We don’t have much cold bar room....we keep our teas in a Curtis, so they aren’t in the way....hmm. It will be interesting to say the least.
FfierceLaw 37 points 2y ago
We have an elderly couple who mobile order two trentas just like that and I hand it over filled to the top. It’s bizarre, I agree. Looks like red kool aid
stormy-nights 17 points 2y ago
My guess is since they aren’t able to buy the boxes, they use it to make their own drinks at home
barista19471057 [OP] 12 points 2y ago
I. That's gotta be at least a box and a half.
biscuit1033 35 points 2y ago
I really wish that Starbucks would have made it standard from the beginning to only put the amount that would actually usually go in a refresher (like the shaker measurement) no matter if it’s no ice/light ice. Like imagine someone ordering no ice no water and we give them a venti strawberry refresher and it’s only filled up to the bottom black line 😂
Same thing with light ice lattes, instead of filling it to the top with milk, it gets extra room. The system is obviously not accounting for the fact that you just gave Becky an entire box of strawberry açaí in a Trenta cup because she ordered no water no ice. I’m so tired of people cheating the system to get things for free
barista19471057 [OP] 16 points 2y ago
I think for light ice we should be a little more generous (I normally just want an ice scoop down i.e. a grande instead of a venti scoop) because the entire drink is ice and it waters it down super quick. The no ice though? Yeah no fuck them. No ice refreshers OR frappuccinos SHOULD NOT exist and that's on that
biscuit1033 9 points 2y ago
True, I’ve definitely ordered light ice before. Thank god I’ve never come across a no ice frap 😭
I just don’t understand why we’re supposed to fill things up to the top when they say no ice
barista19471057 [OP] 4 points 2y ago
Yeah that's my problem too. It's stupid as fuck.
givemeapples 10 points 2y ago
I am wholeheartedly with you on this one. I'm sick of people trying to game the system. I'm not necessarily against people doing light ice (unless they ask for literally "2 ice cubes" in which case.... yeah fuck that) but the thing is a group of 3 people will literally order 1 venti strawberry acai no inclusions, ice or water. And then 3 venti cups of ice. And then they literally have the audacity... right in front of me in the handoff plane.... to pour the refresher juice into their cups of ice.
nathalyvx 5 points 2y ago
If people wanna finesse the system, why you care so much? Why are y’all so pressed about people wanting to make their money stretch? Y’all act like it’s gonna hurt your pay check LOL stop complaining & let people live 😂
Roolita 4 points 2y ago
Because it does hurt our paychecks.

If the store makes more money, we get more hours, and therefore we get more money.

Also we’ve experienced a litany of shortages over the last few months. If I have to dump a whole box of refresher base into ONE drink we lose out on like 10 potential sales due to literally not having the product.

And if we’re out of items, we lose out on potential tips and increase our chances for poor survey results and reviews. These things also affect our paychecks.

I totally get the mindset of it not being a big deal, make the customer happy, etc etc. It’s just a more nuanced topic than most people make it out to be.
givemeapples 2 points 2y ago
Because if they're in a position where they have to "make their money stretch" they shouldn't be coming to Starbucks to begin with.
nathalyvx 6 points 2y ago
LMAO anyone can come to Starbucks if they want to stop being an ahole
silurianoverloard 3 points 2y ago
Is it ok for iced coffee? I got used to the way nitro cold brew is and I don’t like the ice getting in the way so when I get iced coffee or cold brew I ask for very little ice. I drink everything black if it makes a difference. If it’s something baristas hate I will stop asking 😊
biscuit1033 3 points 2y ago
I don’t think it’s something that baristas hate! It’s just weird because it throws off the proportions for something like an iced late or refresher and it almost waters it down when we put more milk in it to fill the space, but something like black iced coffee it’s no problem!!
Euphoric_Elk5207 1 points 1y ago
There’s a reason Starbucks let’s you customize your drinks. No ones getting free drinks. People should pay $5 for a drink full of ice? You think Starbucks, a BILLION dollar company gets affected by filling your drink to the top? 🤣. Seriously, stop acting like it’s coming out of your pocket.
atkinsonchar 20 points 2y ago
we have a “regular” that comes by at least once/twice a week and orders 5 trentas of that :)
_Pulltab_ 13 points 2y ago
I honestly just look at it as a quicker drink to make. If you’re getting no water, no ice, no inclusions, there’s no point in shaking it.
nathalyvx 12 points 2y ago
I mean does it really matter? ... Starbucks makes millions
barista19471057 [OP] 17 points 2y ago
It's less about sbux and more about "holy shit what if I wasn't supposed to fill it to the top? What if I get written up?" yk. Like I asked and that took time PLUS the 5 other drinks. It also sucks because we're low on strawberry refresher base
is_it_soy 23 points 2y ago
The BRM clearly states that “no ice/no water” drinks are still meant to be filled to the top. So you’re not getting in trouble for following company policies.

Also, why are you getting annoyed? You’re not paying for the product, you’re not losing your wage for doing it.

You said you were running low on SAR. So? That’s literally not your problem. That’s a concern for upper management.

I know I’m probably sounding like a bitch right now and I’m sorry, but I honestly just want you (and anyone else reading) to take a step back and reevaluate these feelings.

You’re not the one being cheated out of making money; Starbucks is. If they really wanted to charge more for these modifications, they would. But they don’t because their margin profit per drink is astronomical. So even if some people do it daily, it’s not gonna hurt their profits in the slightest.

Some managers try to convince you that those small exchanges cost the store revenue which results in loss of hours. But let’s be real: that’s not true. Because even when you exceed sales, you still experience hour cuts.

So stop stressing about it and just let it happen. Let the people who get paid to worry about it, worry about it.
nathalyvx 10 points 2y ago
That’s exactly my point, don’t stress over things that really don’t matter.. that’s Starbucks problem not mine 😂😂😂😂
barista19471057 [OP] 6 points 2y ago
Y'all. I'm pissed bc of the asshole karen's. It's always the rudest customers that pull shit like this. If it was a sweet person I Would Not Care the way I do. And honestly I like starbucks! They've mostly treated me right and pay me $3 more per hour than ANY of my previous jobs. If it was just those drinks and like a cafe or drive thru or mobile pick up I'd care a lot less. It was a delivery with several other items when I was swamped and I had to stop what I was doing to package it.
nathalyvx 1 points 2y ago
It’s not always “Karen’s” but go off lol. I like Starbucks too, they have an OK pay rate. We’re not gonna sit here and act like it’s AMAZING because for what they make we could be getting payed starting off $15 but just cause I like Starbucks don’t mean ima sit here and care so much about things. It’s just a job. At the end of the day Starbucks is a big ass corporation who makes a whole lotta money
lewabwee 3 points 2y ago
Yeah I mean it wouldn’t even actually benefit our labor if we charged more because they wouldn’t come back. It’s not harder to make those drinks. I don’t care if we run out of product because someone bought it all for cheap. Refreshers without ice or water are really easy to make so I have zero issues with it. I kinda think it’s weird to be that concerned with Starbucks not letting people game the system with easy to make drinks. It’s their policy and their loss so whatever.
Brgnbo 9 points 2y ago
I have a lady that does this with Trentas and gets sides of ice. Smart but annoying lol
Excelsior288 7 points 2y ago
Lol. I order the mango dragon fruit that way... To take home and mix into cocktails over the span of a few days...🍸😉
InsertAliasHere7589 10 points 2y ago
Might as well pick up a jug of white grape juice at the store. That's basically what the refresher bases are.
nathalyvx 2 points 2y ago
Ain’t nothing wrong with that ! Make them cocktails 😂
Excelsior288 2 points 2y ago
Yea it used to be nice when I was a partner working close on a Friday night knowing I had off Sat and Sunday. I knew what fixings I was taking time to my wife. 🤣🤣
rasperries 1 points 2y ago
Respect the drip. Don’t know why this bothers people
lilkiosk 2 points 2y ago
I’ve had people try to buy the boxes so we just charge them for the trenta refresher no ice, no water, no inclusions. It probably should be more. But it is what it is.
rasperries 2 points 2y ago
Idk if y’all never tried it but the refresher bases taste great with vodka and tequila. I could never drink the base by itself but I buy trentas like this occasionally to mix with my liquor and it’s rlly good. Idk why no ice bothers people whenever I make no ice drinks it’s technically easier to make. This person was probably gonna mix them or make more drinks to save money. The company doesn’t charge (at least stores in my area including mine don’t ) for no ice as of right now so obviously people will try to save money
InvestmentMuch7643 2 points 2y ago
when i was working inside a store starbucks we would charge extra for base if they did that
PharaohPollux 1 points 1y ago
I used to think like you. But then you gotta remember, "this isn't coming out of my paycheck, its coming out of a multi billion company's paycheck". Don't take it so seriously.
zerohydrogen 1 points 2y ago
Another post about why bug business is dumb and small businesses are way smarter when it comes to this. As a server i would be able to refuse or charge extra after asking the boss, at starbucks you don't have that true option, just whatever the shift manager "thinks" a company would do.

As baristas we just have to take customer orders and make the drinks. You can let Starbucks deal with people and their crazy drink request. And if you run out.... sorry were all out 🤗
No need to put the company stresses on your shoulders ❤❣❤
It should be an extra charge in the system like an add shot or added base to a drink like the computer usually does. (because realistically when someone asks for no ice they expect the room to be filled with juice)

I spent time being mad about this too because I liked my store and I hated when "life hackers" ripped us off. But I came to realize that SB did not pay me enough to be mad all the time so I stopped caring. If my manager did not care and the DM did not care and corporate did not care why should I care?
nathalyvx 2 points 2y ago
Exactly!!!!!! Like Starbucks is a big ass corporation they will be OK, I’m not gonna sit here and complain and say fuck certain customers for that 😂

Lol no you don’t fill it to the top. My store just had a civil war over this that all started with one customer who tried to trick us into giving her venti for like a month. So the standard would be to take out all of that stuff and give them the small amount of base that should be there. Now the other side (was the losing side at my store) said fill it up mainly Bc it’s less to deal with Bc if you’re getting a customer like mine or yours their a born and bred asshole and have no business interacting with society and you just want them out. Me personally I like the standard for assholes and the losing side for the nice customers. But if it’s a mobile I go standard
stormy-nights 7 points 2y ago
The BRM says you have to fill it to the top though
YoungLady24 1 points 2y ago
Yeah I saw that at two out of four of the stores I’ve worked at that they are not all the same
stormy-nights 1 points 2y ago
The BRM is a standard for all Starbucks, so every store should be filling to the top
Pontiff_Pineapple 1 points 2y ago
Where is your manager?
