Best shoes for work (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by liveingalpal
I am scrambling to find the most long lasting cost effective pair of shoes. I don’t want to give myself 2nd degree burns or have soaked socks lol. What have you all used that works the best for this war zone?

EDIT: thank you all for answering! After much consideration and kind answers from you all, I’ve decided on some Doc Martens : D

I swear by my Dr Martens. I've had them since day one and 2 years later they're still holding up to the shit I put them through at work. Upfront they're expensive, but if you don't have to replace them it becomes worth it.
liveingalpal [OP] 4 points 2y ago
I feel like this is a sign to get docs lol . A few people have commented them
TastyBlondGarbage 3 points 2y ago
My biased opinion: go for them if your a fan of Dr M. I got mine at Nordstrom on clearance for cheap and I totally would've paid full price for non clearance ones because they're so resistant.
liveingalpal [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Any specific ones that are great? Or just docs in general
TastyBlondGarbage 2 points 2y ago
Docs in general but go for the leather kind. Edit: 1460s are what I have.

The skechers work shoes or shoesforcrews nonslips both have decently affordable options and they will last much longer than the ones from walmart. (although I did wear the hell out of my walmart ones, those start falling apart pretty quickly and I had to do more patchwork on those than I'd have liked). Starbucks doesn't require nonslips but imo it's pretty foolish not to wear them. No reason to bust your ass on an ice cube lol

I got Emeril brand food shoes (so made for working in food) and they’re water proof and slip proof, and they’re the best purchase I’ve made. We spilt a sani bucket once all over my feet and my feet were dry
liveingalpal [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Thanks. Happy cake day by the way!

Shoesforcrews has some pretty good shoes. They have a wide variety, a little more then I usually pay for shoes but I would say it's worth it.

I got some of the $30 workbooks from Walmart that are leather based and they're nice and waterproof while also being comfortable to wear! I only got them recently so idk if they're long-lasting yet.

Okay great, that still gives me a good idea! Thanks

Straight up work boots

LOL good to know

Docs on ebay! I got a pair of real leather (already broken in) docs for $40. Had some scuffs and a really cute flower print. I would definitely check the size chart for docs before you order them too, they tend to run 1/2 to a full size larger.
liveingalpal [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I’ve been looking at some docs-I like the boots but the little lace up leather ones (Bonny boots I think) seem more affordable. I’m a 7 1/2 and they don’t have half sizes, is sizing down better than up in your opinion?
alathree 2 points 2y ago
Size down, I usually wear a size 8 1/2 and a us 8 fits perfectly with thicker socks. The shoes will still need time to adjust to your feet (width and where your toes land) but the shoes will fit perfectly in a week, if already broken. Just in case: if the leather still needs to be softened and broken in, invest in some K-Tape and tape up your heel and the side of your foot to prevent blisters and chaffing 😁
liveingalpal [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Thanks will definitely get the tape and wear thick socks because I’m a big baby lol
liveingalpal [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I found some made with polyester and rubber, but maybe the leather docs are better
alathree 2 points 2y ago
It's really up to your comfort level! The leather will hold up better in the long term: no toe jams, no worrying about hot water/coffee (will not leave a stain either) and are going to last a while. I don't have much experience in the polyester line or how well they hold up

doc martens!!!! i swear by them!
RunTheWatchOver 2 points 2y ago
DR MARTENS FTW

You can find them on sale on the website or in various stores. Worth the investment. Been at The Bux almost 3 years and still on the same pair. Got the bungy laces too haha
liveingalpal [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I was seriously thinking of those bc I love docs. The breaking in seems terrible tho
RunTheWatchOver 3 points 2y ago
Just wear goood socks!!!!!

Not cheap but may be worth in the long run, for women’s style shoes I used to wear Dansko clogs. Not listed as slip proof but I never had trouble at all, good support, most water resistent shoes I own barring the low sides, and they’d last me at least a year working 30+ hrs on my feet. Year and a half the time I bought cheap insoles, but the outside started to give after that. I think they ran me something like $140 though. But worth looking into if they last 2-3x as long as other brands or comfortable enough to be worth.
SomeBewitchery 3 points 2y ago
Seconding this, but PLEASE go into a Dansko Store/Walking Company in order to try them on properly and get the feeling for them. Get the real leather pair (I know, I wish they had a more flexible vegan version) or they may not break in the way you need them to. I had a pair that lasted me almost 10 years at the Bux and they cracked because of salt and ice (Northwest). I replaced them and spent entirely too much money on a pair of the same shoes made of PVC that ended up not breaking in the way I wanted and causing me more problems than they were worth. I miss my good Danskos...
Either way, if you get them, that $140 can take you for a good 6-10 years with replacement insoles if you treat them good.

I dont spill too often but I have a pair of black leather converse I wear. Either those or some Timbaland boots

These are the ones I wear. Very durable, well priced, and protective. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C2F24VW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VX7KGJ8ATZWXX7XKPSAD
