Can I legally work at 2 coffee shops? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MemesandSpeech

Just got a call back for a barista FULL-TIME position and I was wondering If I can work at Starbucks and the downtown coffee shop? (U.S / Living in NYC)

Sidenote: If can't then I might leave SB. (Getting sick and tired of staying over time with no extended pay after closing / cleaning up after my coworkers while they be staring at girl's. -\_-)

No, you will be arrested and your door will be kicked down. I would suggest getting into your car pronto, as the FBI is likely already on their way to you current location.

no :( i believe that would be considered a conflict of interest.

That sucks! I only still saying to get more via coffee for myself :/

If you’re not a manager, I believe the policy is that it just has to be disclosed
I’d call the partner resource center

Depends. Some companies have non-compete rules, and neither store could have a non-compete clause as a term of employment.

Working at another coffee shop for a barista should't raise the issue of "conflict of interest" because you don't make enough managerial type decisions to trigger any real conflicts, only perhaps annoy your manager that they can't have your open availability.

Edit: if you're staying late to finish closing then you get paid. Time worked = time paid.

Nah. My manager don't want us to do it too often. (Working over hours)

Hence I get annoyed when my shift be telling me to clock out but still clean up (off the clock) / make whip creams for the A.M Crew while he and my other coworker talking about girls -\_-. Like maybe if y'all could clean up after yourself /GET OFF YOUR PHONE and stop hitting on most customers, WE WOULD LEAVE ON TIME!

That's illegal.

Hence why I might dip out >.>

My last pay was close to 400$ but WASN'T! I did 40+ hours! (Called sick and took 2 morning shifts) So I'm confused if taxes took a bigger chunk or my shift didn't gave me my sick pay / payed for my coverage (when he knew i was covering on my free sat) (That or the manager from the other store didn't put it in the system either)

* Hence why now I'm not doing anymore doubles / coverings :3

You need to report that.

Once you are clocked out, you do not work. To ask you to do so is illegal.

"Oh but think about the morning partners blah blah" Oh let's help em b.s

I've done openings! Reason morning complains that they don't have anything is because there partners always come in late!

"Oh can you cover? cause etc. called out "sick"

Time worked = time paid.

If anyone asks you to work off the clock just say either "I already clocked out so I can't work" or "i already clocked out, but let me clock in before I do anything to help"

And if anyone pulls anything and makes you work off the clock make a complaint to your DM and to partner resources.
