The best way to handle supervisors like this is literally ask them this question. After the situation is over go up to them and ask how they would have liked you to handle the situation, and if it contradicts what you have been couched on, tell them that too. It forces them to actually make up their minds about what they want from you, and if different supervisors are coaching different things, it brings it to their attention as well.

This! Please do this! When I was in your shoes as a barista and was told conflicting things, I point blank asked that so I could get some clarity.

This is such a mood. You’re clearly here to do your best and support your fellow team members. Simple kindness toward one another goes a long way, you and I know that to be true ❤️ With my store set up, we leave front customers to whomever is on front/warming/customer support, so that our DTO is focusing solely on the conversations with drive through customers. That being said, it would be totally appropriate to leave your post to do something like grab a mobile order to bring it to drive. 😊 Just my two cents based on the way my store operates!

You just got to be up front with them. This didn’t happen at a Starbucks but at a restaurant I used to work at. I was The dishwasher. But it was so busy my manager asked me to seat people, take drink orders, clear tables, prep more food, and shine silverware because my wait staff was “too busy” of course I did this because I’m a good and helpful person. But I still had to do my dishes. It went on for a while and I stopped doing as much to help out because it was exhausting. my manager screamed at me. “Why am I paying you all this money if shit isn’t going to get done” I just looked at him and said. Tell me what My job is. I believe I’m THE dishwasher. But if that’s not true let me know and I will only do That! he shut up and we never had that conversation again. I started working at Starbucks a couple months later. You do You man.

oh my god i was in this exact position, i was a dishwasher but would host, bus, roll silverware and help cooks out because they needed the support and i am generally a helpful person, when i started at sbux i would get yelled at for multitasking when i could handle it and fellow partners needed the support, it’s so frustrating and conflicting to know you can help but not being able to

Did you not have anyone on support?

We did not. We're a high volume store with roughly 20 employees in total, but with staffing issues we had only 4 on the floor at the time. Two bar, one in drive, and one playing catch up from this double star hell.

When I'm dtrow I grab mobiles myself as I'm checking if they are ready

Honestly whenever I’m on drive I always try to support my fellow baristas. I’ll take an order up front and even hop on bar if needed, if a shift or sm were to tell me to go back to my position I’d tell them that said barista needs help and so I’m making some drinks because they’re overwhelmed. They usually don’t say anything and let me do my thing. It just sucks when partners don’t support each other
