Tarbux and other licensed store baristas, question:(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by NervosaNervous
I’m a barista at a corporate store, but I went to a Tarbux to get my mom her iced matcha latte with oat milk cause my store has been out of oat milk for nearly a month. They asked me if I wanted it sweetened. Our matcha powder is a blend with sugar, so it’s already sweet on its own. I asked if it was already pre-sweetened and the baristas said it comes with classic. I have never heard of the matcha lattes getting classic. Do licensed stores have a different recipe for matcha lattes than corporate stores? Or did these baristas make a mistake?

It used to come with classic

I know the green tea frapps get classic. I just never heard of the matcha lattes getting it since working here. Interesting.

Our recipes are exactly the same as corporate starbucks, that was just a mistake on their part. Although the other comment is correct, a long time ago the latte did have classic.

They are probably going off really old recipe cards!

I work at a Macy’s Starbucks and I don’t think it comes with classic but my boyfriend works at a target one and says it does and even showed me a drink card that said it came with classic even though neither of us have ever made it with classic unless asked by a customer

That sounds like an outdated drink card. I worked at a Tarbucks starting in 2008 and the green tea lattes Def came with classic. About 3 years ago wanna say they took the classic out. Pretty sure is was around the time I switched to company operated in 2018.

Definitely outdated drink card. They haven’t come with classic since like 2016

i’ve had issues with license stores making drinks wrong too (i work at a corporate store), i never say anything because i’m not really confrontational and don’t want to sound like a know it all but i cringe every time they shake the milk with the shaken espresso drinks 🥴

Why did I read this as TurboTax lmao

The green tea frap comes with classic; the green tea latte does not. Most likely the barista was a green bean who assumed that the classic syrup was consistent across all matcha drinks, which is a logical mistake imo.
Target is supposed to follow the same drink standards as corporate, and yes, they use the same matcha powder which (in the US) is pre-sweetened.

There were two baristas there who said the same thing. I’m thinking they don’t have updated recipe cards.

Probably not tbh and not every recipe is included in barista basics. Corporate neglects the licensed stores, even when they do have sufficient hours. Certain communications just never even get sent to licensed stores, and the weekly updates are not exactly the same.
