Manager accused me of lying about having a fever. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Butterflybo0ty
Due to COVID in the past I’ve had to call out twice (my dad got COVID and I felt very under the weather the other time). Today I thought It was my allergies but sadly 45 minutes before my shift I started to feel feverish and my temperature turned out to be 100.4 degrees. I called immediately and she brought up my past mistakes cause I didn’t have COVID and wanted to be safe, as COVID has given me a lot of anxiety about getting others sick. She said my temperature of 100.4 is exactly the temperature you need to be considered sick enough to not come to work(pure coincidence) and basically accused me of lying and that I should have called two hours sooner. Due to situations like in the past where she’s blamed me for being careful and not feeling well I get immense anxiety about calling out which is why I didn’t do it until I realized I had a fever, it’s dumb but I’m being honest. I felt extremely guilty as they are now short one person but what was I supposed to do. I hate my store so much I wanted to cry the whole phone call with her, it felt like an interrogation and I was already feeling shit enough as is.

This SSV would like for you to know that **you did the right thing.** Don't feel guilty for following policy, and especially don't feel guilty for looking out for yourself. If you don't take care of yourself, who will? Certainly not your SM, it looks like.

**You did the right thing.**

First as the SSV said you did the right thing. Second your manager not only broke policy but ,depending on your state, may have also broke a law. I would consider talking to your DM or partner resources

She does act very unprofessional and I wonder how she still has her job :/ it doesn’t seem right

For sure contact your DM and partner resources. Write everything down that has happened to you or you’ve seen happen and try to give the dates. The more detailed you’re the better

People have complained in the past. She has my district manager whipped. I think it’s a good idea but I fear not much would come of it

I had a similar situation at my store and the DM and SM where very close and she believe anything my SM would say. If that’s the case contact partner resources and see if there are other baristas who feel the same encourage them to reach out. A good way to also report what is going on anonymously going is the partner surveys that come out every week you can leave your store number and just say it’s your SM but do not give your name. They actually take those quite seriously
