How do y’all make your iced matcha??(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tinydesthique
So, what I do all the time is I put the matcha powder in the shaker, add a tiny bit of hot water and stir it around (stir the shaker around gently) to make the combination into a paste, add my milk, then ice. Then, i give it a little shake to mix it all together. Believe it or not, it makes a huge difference in taste. I do the same thing for hot matcha as well. Kinda like how you would add water to the Chai base to bring out the spice flavors.
How do you guys make you matcha? ☺️

Milk in the shaker to the water/lemonade/milk line, then matcha 2/3/4, then ice and shake usually more then 10x. If it is too foamy I will pour it using a spoon, holding back the ice and foam and then just add a scoop of ice to the cup.

Standard way is as others have said: milk, matcha, ice, shake, pour. There is no syrup in it even though I think there used to be a couple/few years ago so some stores still do it that way? Only classic in the matcha frap.
For hot matcha we steam the powder with the milk and I also pour extra milk or the cup won’t be full. One of our regulars is very particular about this drink!

Honestly, I hate the standard way of using it in the shaker. If you put it in the cf blender for like 2 seconds on setting 3 it perfectly mixed without being overly foamy like when you shake it. Just make sure to take it out soon as you can or it becomes cold foam lol.

For ice, I generally do it the standard way, though I shake it 10 times up and down, then another 10 times side to side. As for hot, I think the match actually blends in well when you heat it up with the milk. The only thing I like to do is to add more milk than normal (like if it’s a grande, I would measure the milk to the venti pitcher). That way there’s not as much room near the top.

I was taught to fill with water to the proper line on shaker cup, add syrup, add ice scoop, add matcha and then shake until well combined. Pour into cup and add milk to top but my location is known for poor drink accuracy so I have no clue if that’s correct

oh jeez 😅 i’ve never heard of the method from your store. that’s super odd. usually, what i see people do at my store (the easy way they would say) is add the powder to shaker, add appropriate ice, and then milk, and shake.

They are probably Canadian. We have unsweetened matcha here (there used to be three types of microground tea) so the standard is a bit different.

this is correct!! this is how the recipe card says to make it, at least in canadian stores :)
furry_shrimp1 points2y ago
Yea I’d check the recipe cards for that one because I have never heard of it being made that way.

Well, for my store we do cold water to mezzo base line (for every size), add the proper amount of matcha scoops, add syrup, add the correct amount of ice then shake it after you fill the rest with milk and give like 1 or 2 shake just to mix it well with the matcha ^-^ I know that they changed the recipe like 2 to 3 time since I started like 3 years ago x-x (Canadian partner here~)

a lot of the people at my store put it in the cold foam blender. i find it easier to sequence that way and the consistency is amaaaaazing. i know it’s not standard but it’s faster and smoother lol

I do milk, half of the amount of ice, matcha, then the rest of the ice. It makes it mix better somehow

It depends on the barista at my store lol I make it with adding milk to the juice/lemonade line of the tea shaker, scoops of matcha, ice and aggressively shake until well combined. I've seen other put however much milk into the cold foam pitcher and matcha theb blend~ for hot ones it's milk to whatever line, matcha, then steam a in the whirlpool motion (as one should for any drink)
