Easy easy easy. Watch the vids, some good info. Takes time. Do the tastings with other baristas or your SM and then boom black apron. Then you can tell your coworkers I am the coffee master now

The online training we did when hired?
It was great but as a kinesthetic learner there is a huge gap between learning it mentally and executing and applying it at work. I am a learn by doing person, I can read something and apply the theory...but right after coffee academy I was spending the next several months learning where everything was located on the computer. It dwarfed the benefits and my retention of coffee academy.
I don’t know whether this was due to the pandemic throwing everything off but it felt like coffee academy vs operating procedures was a different world.
I feel like Coffee Academy should be a continuing education thing and maybe we can review that info because I got so distracted by operating procedures...coffee wasn’t the focus for most of my time at Starbucks, thus far.
I wasn’t making or dealing with coffee for my first 5 months. Operating the computers and dealing with customers and figuring out other tasks became front and center.

Coffee academy isn’t the new hire training, that’s barista basics
CA is available to partners and non-partners

I know I took some coffee academy courses during my training. It’s underneath barista basics. Maybe I took mine too soon?

What do you mean underneath barista basics?

On my screen it had a side tab. Barista basics and coffee academy were on the same tab. I completed everything, I think.

I’m in my first week and that online training was my first day. The rest of it has been bar, cold drinks and register. It was also structured like the training

That’s awesome! The bar was my first and only day, besides my last shift. I got to work bar on that shift.

I enjoyed it. Having also been through the Coffee Master certification years ago I find that the content in Coffee Academy is a bit more broad, but not as deep like CM was. Videos are nice and plentiful if you are a visual learner. The 300 level courses were a nice refresher. Plus anyone can sign up for the courses.
I know there is also Coffee Academy in MyLearning under Barista Basics when new hires start training. IIRC it goes over a couple things from CA 100.
