Promoting from Shift to Store Manager (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Paperfl0wer
I’ve been a shift supervisor for 9 years... I know I know lmao. Recently I’ve had the opportunity to begin the process of becoming an ASM or store manager. I’ve been working with my DM on my PDP and I’m wondering if any of you guys have any ideas or tips. I’m open to anything. I have my first interview with my manager and her peers in a few weeks and I’m not really sure what to do to sell myself. I never thought I’d make it here to be honest. Thank you guys

Lol same honestly. I don’t know how it happened. It was so slow and so so fast at the same time.

If it’s meant to be it will be. What my dm asked me to do was to pick what I was going to make my store goal and own it I picked customer connection scores. Have a plan set in place to show and talk about and make sure your keeping track of any progress you have. Why is worked? what didn’t work? Also as an asm you will have to coach shifts too so that one of the main things they look at in my opinion, do you coach your peers?

Treat every interaction you have with an SM or DM like it's ***the*** job interview for ASM. Talk to SMs in your district and ask them for help to understand what the expectations are to be ready and anything they may think you need to do to demonstrate that your ready. This meeting coming up could be where the DM decides you're ready or decides you need a few more months to demonstrate that you're ready.

Besides keeping current on communications and company info, talk to your SM about the priorities and opportunities in your store and be able to speak about them with your DM and other SMs when you interact with them. Tell them what you are doing to support the store/ have an impact in these areas. Make sure you are perceived as a someone who solves problems rather than creating them. And of course, continue to do a great job in your current role!
