Customers ripping you off too? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I'm on window today. Had 2 girls come through the drive thru. They had ordered a trenta pink drink with raspberry guava and no ice, and 2 trenta cups of ice. So I'm already thinking, "okay. You're going to dump the drink into these two cups with ice. Gotcha. No big deal. At least they didn't ask us to do it." I hand it out and take their payment. Then the girl in the passenger seat goes, "Oh no. We ordered this wrong. I'm so sorry. This was supposed to be just a normal strawberry acai refresher. I'm so sorry. Can you remake it?"

So I had the cold bar remake a trenta strawberry acai. Hand it off. No big deal.

Then the barista on DTO is like, "I knew they were going to do that. I specifically read their order back to them because it's a new thing people are doing with that particular drink."

Anyone else have this happen with that specific drink yet.

I think they are just taking advantage of the fact we can’t take things back when they are handing out the window.

YES this has been infuriating lately, I confirm the order before hand off now and if it isn't right, I dump it out and they only get what they pay for. They really think we're stupid... or that they're the first genius to try this trick

I was told by my SM that we can actually take drinks back from customers especially if they haven’t taken a sip from it, my SM, DM, and Regional got involved because one of our baristas got in trouble for not taking a mistake drink back and they got in an argument with the customer. Don’t know if it’s different in different regions but I’m in Florida and was told that that isn’t policy!!

I know we’re aren’t supposed to but if I feel like they’re trying to play me I will take it back, dump it, and then wash my hands lol

I second that. I also charge people if they get their drink and say, “oh, this was supposed to be a larger size.” I refund and charge the correct size. It's extra work but well worth it because people be doing that a lot at my store.

We had a car order 4 or 5 super complicated refreshers and when they got to the window they pulled the good ol “Uhhh these were supposed to be made with water, not lemonade 😡” (not to mention i repeated the order more than once) and like, we aren’t supposed to take stuff back but my manager just happened to be behind me and told them that in order to get remakes, they would have to give the ‘mess up’ drinks back.

They looked at us and said, “I thought you weren’t allowed to take drinks back?” and we knew right then, that they were trying to get free drinks out of it. Because people who truly want a remake will usually hand me the drink back without me asking which, in a way is very annoying, but reassuring that they aren’t scamming.

What my manager has us do in cases like that is take back the drink with a glove and dump it out. Customers think they're so clever nowadays 🙄🙄

At this point my DM and SM are requiring to take the drinks back bc we have around 14 or so usuals who do this

“Sure! I’ll just go ahead and take the mistake from you and get you the correct drink! 😊 ^bitch”

Literally lately I’ve been having to take drinks back because it’s getting absolutely ridiculous.

My stores not giving out ice cups bigger than grande because we keep running out of venti and trenta cups

Take the other drink back?
wifeypoopoo [OP] 9 points 2y ago
Yeah! That's what I decided too

We’re technically not allowed to take anything back after we’ve given it to a customer
FfierceLaw 16 points 2y ago
Literally this whole post has been about taking it back anyway, regardless of the rule, because customers are using that rule to scam Sbux

Pre-pandemic id ask to see the sticker, they'd give me back the drink, they'd only get 1 drink back

Not that I care that much about the well-being of the company or whatever, but at the end of the day, doing the “trenta drink with two ice cups” is basically stealing, right? I don’t know why it rubs me the wrong way so much, just something I’d never do in general. Sooner than later everyone is going to start doing it when they realize others are getting “more drink than them” for the same price. I always want to tell people no when they ask for that, but I guess I technically can’t. If you can’t afford two drinks, don’t go to Starbucks
