I'm glad we've transitioned to strawless lids (except for the fraps of course). I just cant help to find it a little annoying when customers insist on getting straws. And at first I would explain that the lids are now made to be sipped from and they would just stare in confusion until the got their straws. I mean isnt annoying to stick your straw into a tiny little hole where it's gonna be flush to the side of the cup all the time?
EDIT: I'm not referring to people with disabilities! At my store we have a few regulars that cant have their drinks without a straw due to their disability and need help opening them. I mean people who just refuse to adapt to the new lids.

Some people still need straws; for disabilities, sensitive teeth, etc.
Throwawaysnore14 points2y ago
I usually ask bc you never know if they have a disability. I also ask bc it’s kinda nuisance to tip the cup and drive.. But still is kinda annoying
claudiafhorn [OP]8 points2y ago
Oh of course! There's two regulars who have a disability and they both need help opening their straws. I'm not complaining about that of course, just people who get drinks with a nitro lid/strawless lid and still ask for straws
Throwawaysnore4 points2y ago
I also have when they ask for straws when they get VSCCF, like it’s meant to be dipped and enjoyed with your drink, not sucked up in a straw
claudiafhorn [OP]1 points2y ago
Exactly lol the nitro lid is quite telling of that 😂
Baristajf3 points2y ago
Nuisance yes but I still want a straw... I hurt my neck in an accident and an prone to choking when I drink without a straw
stqmine10 points2y ago
idk.. I get a straw like if I take my drink to class and I don’t want to take my whole mask off to sip but rather slip the straw under my ask really quickly. Also straws accounts for little to nothing of pollution, but I’m fully with keeping a reusable straw I just forget sometimes.
claudiafhorn [OP]3 points2y ago
I'm on the same page with you about the contribution of straws to the overall waste output. It just makes the new lids seem pointless haha
stqmine4 points2y ago
honestly I always loved the nitro lids before, but now it just kinda hurts my teeth from the coldness

We were running out in the aftermath of the Texas storm and were trying to conserve them for Frappuccinos but just TRY to talk a heavily made up woman out of her straw. She’s NOT going to tip a cup up toward her face
CLEf116 points2y ago
You should tell her straws cause wrinkles around the lips
FfierceLaw2 points2y ago
Very good!
claudiafhorn [OP]5 points2y ago
I'm in texas too and god that was a terrible week afterwards
meloscav9 points2y ago
What we NEED is compostable straws. And I’m not talking about the shitty cardboard ones. I’m talking hemp or corn plastic. The cups too. Any plastic utensil we have needs to be replaced with biodegradable plastic because it’s absolutely useless just to get rid of straws when every part of your drink cup is ALSO plastic.
Turtles are much more frequently killed and injured by fishing nets left in the ocean rather than straws.

claudiafhorn [OP]1 points2y ago
Very much agree with you! Starbucks can definitely make changes like these a lot quicker than they ate
claudiafhorn [OP]1 points2y ago
Are*
CLEf113 points2y ago
I feel the same way
charlenebean2 points2y ago
This pisses me off too. I don’t give people straws on purpose. You don’t NEED ONE people are so entitled and they don’t think about waste!
claudiafhorn [OP]2 points2y ago
Yes!
Honey_Ginger2 points2y ago
I get straws for caramel macchiatos because I'm an animal an get it with extra drizzle BUT I'm trying to remember to always take my reusable straw because the ENVIRONMENT 🪲
charlenebean4 points2y ago
Yeah... just keep reusable straws in your car lmao.
chowderchop1 points2y ago
For certain drinks, I just simply do not enjoy drinking it without a straw (Iced Caramel Macchiato is a very good example) without a straw, the drink tastes like straight espresso. Nothing wrong with that but it's not meant to be just straight espresso haha. Might as well drink an iced espresso at that point. Frappuccino's are another good example. You seriously can't expect that someone can drink a Frappuccino without a straw haha
I understand the company wanting to encourage taking out the straw and in fact I like that (had a reusable straw myself but I accidently threw it away -.-)
But some drinks just need that straw haha
claudiafhorn [OP]1 points2y ago
I did state in parentheses that frappuccinos are the exception. Also, if you dont like to have the initial espresso on your CM, you can always order it upside down or even just go for a vanilla latte with cr drizzle and -1 syrup pump! I'm pretty sure it's Cheaper than the way it gets ringed up on the pos. At least for my store bc we're licensed and charge for every little thing.
