when a homeless woman having a psychotic episode is pacing around your store and another homeless man is yelling at people in drive-thru and you have 6 different frapps in your queue(i.redd.it)

if you’re gonna pace around our store for 2 hours can you please at least keep your mask on????
editing to add: my store is located in an area with a large homeless population. i don’t have any animosity towards these people and treat them like i would any other customer. today was just particularly exhausting. i’m a barista paid $10/hr not a licensed social worker. im trying to do the best i can with the resources i have.
just another wednesday in paradise😌🤙🏻

It's nuts isn't it? My fiancee is a psychologist that works in crisis, and after comparing notes we realized I deal with more schizophrenics on average than she does! At least they made incident reports easier and more visible, so suddenly my DM realizes what an "average" day looks like for me.

We had to call the cops because the homeless man who lives behind the Popeyes garbage pulled a knife on customers 😀

There’s this homeless man on a wheelchair who would sometimes sit in our drive thru line and ask for money. He’d always go running when my SM or ASM would go out to talk to him and start harassing other people in other drive thrus like McDonald’s or Wendy’s.

we’ve had that happen a couple of times. it’s a safety hazard- we don’t allow anyone to walk through/around our drive-thru.

Last month we had to call the cops on a homeless man who kept walking into our cafe naked. The worst part: my first job was targeted toward people with no job experience, especially homeless people, and I've dealt with way more crazy people at Starbucks than at that job.

i worked at my university’s library prior to starbucks so i definitely have experience working with homeless community members, just in a much different setting.

I clocked out, got my tent from home, gave it to the man who said he needed a few extra dollars to go over to Walmart(across the road) and buy a tent because the police tore his down. My co-workers (minus my SM) were like why would you do that!? Because he needs a place to sleep, I had a tent...

We have a man come in every other day basically. He threatens customers inside the store every time. Threatens to kill anybody that has their phone out trying to contact the police. When we hit the panic button the university police take a good 10 minutes to get there and he is gone by then... Like OP said we treat the homeless population with respect and obviously this man needs help, but we don't have the resources to tackle this 3 times a week.

Y’all are seriously underpaid. I go to Starbucks every single day of my god damn life and I’ve never been rude to a barista and they’ve never been rude to me.
