WHAT SIZE?! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dovened
Does anyone else literally have customers tell them they “don’t care” what size? I had a girl today order a long, complicated drink (probably off TikTok) but never gave me a size. I asked her what size she wanted and she said “it doesn’t matter I don’t care” and proceeded to shove her phone at me to scan her sbux card. It took every inch of me to keep my cool but I explained to her I need to know a size before I can write it on the cup and ring her out, she got mad and said that she didn’t care so I picked a venti cup and she told me that was too big. Then she got mad that the drink she wanted was almost $7 and left.

*why?*

It drives me crazy sometimes when people don’t bother to tell me a size. Like why wouldn’t you state how much liquid you want. And yes, I don’t work with the menu to make TikTok drinks extra cost effective at all. If someone has some modest modifications, I’ll ring it up (accurately) in a way that is most cost effective like chai in a latte is cheaper than espresso in a chai. I think it’s totally valid to do because people are describing what they want and it’s our job to interpret it. But I’m gonna ring up TikTok drinks how they’re read to me.

My favorite is 'regular' size....
Then when I reiterate, "would that be our small (tall), medium (grande) or large (venti)?"
'Uh....whichever'
🤦

Wtaf is regular size even supposed to mean????
bryceofswadia 17 points 2y ago
Regular typically means medium.
csaine 12 points 2y ago
We're dealing with people who generally do not seem to have any clue what they are actually ordering half the time.... There is no "typically" with them sadly.

Fair enough lol.

If they ask regular I always put medium but if they're jerks I just put down venti because I cannot look at their confused and angry faces charging at me because they wanted a large anymore. I just can't do it

Same, I interpret "regular" as grande, especially because that's what the computer assumes.

That said I usually double check a few things at the end of a bigger order, and sizing is one of them. Iced/hot is another. Warming pastries is another. Saves my other partners from having to remake things after the customer has already paid.

Yea it doesn’t hurt to double check by saying “so you’d like a medium?” or something like that.

Oh I hate when people do this. I will give them a grande (and inform them that is considered a regular) and then when they get to the window and sneakily day, “Um. I wanted the LARGE!” I’ll inform them “You did ask for the regular, which we consider a grande (medium). Would you like to pay the difference for a large?”

My biggest pet peave is size and iced or hot. like PLEASE JUST TELL ME FIRST. and they are always rude as hell when you interrupt them to ask.
Wonderful_Nightmare 3 points 2y ago
I approve. 10/10 would ring it as a venti.

I hate when people spend all their time trying to figure out what our sizes are. I frequently state that baristas are still human and understand the terms small, medium and large.

brooo what a dummy? i haven't gotten a customer like that but i would not be playing around and give them a straight up answer and say "you told me you didn't care?"
