I think I would have loved to work in a setup like this. No lobby to worry about, no restrooms, heaven.
PSessions [OP] 119 points 2y ago
Absolutely! Especially the restroom part!
LatterRooster 84 points 2y ago
Yeah, but in my experience this means when you gotta go the bathroom it is gross because some of my co-workers have never had to clean a bathroom their whole time working at Starbucks. Seriously... you don’t know how to clean a toilet... Lol nope. I just ended up bringing the cleaning supplies with me when I had to go. At least I knew it was clean when I used it. 🤣
rudebii 7 points 2y ago
I had a newbies like that, kids that grew up with a mom that did all the housecleaning (not judging, that’s how moms be sometimes) and I had to teach how to do basic cleaning like dusting, sweeping, mopping, and yes, cleaning a toilet. Always the hardest lesson, but I know those green beans at least got some practical life skills on-the-job.
LatterRooster 3 points 2y ago
It should be part of the training... I’m not a trainer🤣🤣🤣 I already taught my kids how to clean the toilet. But yes to all of this
ibapconflicted 12 points 2y ago
my store is a tiny drive through only store and i can verify it is heaven sometimes lol
2011FordEscape 132 points 2y ago
and no drive thru either! whatta dream 🤸‍♂️
PSessions [OP] 21 points 2y ago
Yes it is!

throwaway3456678 22 points 2y ago
No way!!! I work at Starbucks in Columbus too. Where’s this MOP location at?
PSessions [OP] 15 points 2y ago
Campus
NOTcreative- 11 points 2y ago
They’re pretty commonly popping up on campuses
PSessions [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Which location are you at?
kobo15 4 points 2y ago
That’s awesome! I’m an OSU alum and planning to come visit this summer. I gotta come visit this place!! What side of campus are you on?
PSessions [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Neil Ave. Right next to the Optometry Center and in between Hangover Easy! Say hello when you come visit!
Baristasonfridays 40 points 2y ago
My store is also MOP only, in NYC!
But honestly it still astonishes me the amount of customers that end up placing an order in store 🤯🤦🏻‍♀️
PSessions [OP] 25 points 2y ago
Wow! Before our opening, we watched the video featuring your unit!
NothingToSeeFolks 13 points 2y ago
Do you still have registers? Or do you mean they stand in the store and order on their phone?
Baristasonfridays 28 points 2y ago
By law, we gotta have a register (in NYC is illegal for a business to be cashless only).
PSessions [OP] 15 points 2y ago
90% of them LOVE the order ahead concept. The ones that don't like it are those who are a bit older going or coming from Dr. Appointments. We don't push the issue. They don't like Big Brother and that's fine with us.
Baristasonfridays 13 points 2y ago
But sometimes they do stand in the store and place their order through the app.
PSessions [OP] 4 points 2y ago
Yes we still have A register....
PSessions [OP] 38 points 2y ago
Yes! I enjoy it very much. Not as stressful as a stand alone unit, but we still get busy considering we are on Campus
Levinem717 6 points 2y ago
Do you find it ever gets boring?
PSessions [OP] 10 points 2y ago
Not at all. We do have "the calm before the storm" periods but that's a good time for us to have a huddle, prep (we sell A LOT OF COLD BREW) more kegs, get breaks out the way etc...every day is different.
Levinem717 7 points 2y ago
The more I think about it the more chill this is. You get to goof way more probably cause customers can’t hear you talk smack.
amalia13lightning 28 points 2y ago
they.. they can't even hover menacingly while you work??? i... i'm moving to wherever this is
PSessions [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Not at all!
lilkiosk 17 points 2y ago
I enjoy the fact that bar looks hidden because now customers can’t watch you make drinks that aren’t theirs and tell you you’re making their drink wrong
depressoroast 17 points 2y ago
How do customers react when they can’t come in to order? I am trying to push this as an idea for one of the three stores in my building
PSessions [OP] 16 points 2y ago
Many do not mind at all. After we explain the concept and the goal ( to have you in/out in a matter of seconds), they tend to like it. We also have one of our partners as concierge who stands outside of the store introducing potential customers to the new MOP process. We are definitely trying to cover all our bases.
steamed-apple_juice 12 points 2y ago
I went to the one in Toronto before the pandemic shut everything down lol. Does your store have a huge digital display board with everyone’s names and pick up status?
PSessions [OP] 10 points 2y ago
Yes
egiappaige 10 points 2y ago
May I ask what city this is?
violentfemme17 5 points 2y ago
Columbus, Ohio
coffeenb1 9 points 2y ago
Wow! Do you enjoy working there?
PSessions [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Yes I do enjoy it! It's pretty nice.
sharkoss 8 points 2y ago
I'm curious, how do you keep up with item availability? My store will often turn off specific food items for mobile orders whenever we're down to like 3 of that item so that someone doesn't happen to order it just as we sell out in-store. Do you just have to be really careful/quick about updating item availability asap?
GIPPINSNIPPINS 6 points 2y ago
Where’s the atmosphere of walking into such a lovely place 😩 I’m sorry I love my Starbucks just because it has good music and a good vibe
CriticalSheep 9 points 2y ago
Stores like this are usually implemented because they aren’t high volume or they are predominantly MOP stores with very limited or no seating to begin with. We have a couple cafe only stores that would be served so well with this feature since their MOP business is much higher than their cafe business.
PSessions [OP] 6 points 2y ago
We are definitely high volume. We're located in a prime spot on our OSU Campus
CriticalSheep 2 points 2y ago
Is the majority of your business MOP to begin with? It makes sense in your location I think.
PSessions [OP] 6 points 2y ago
Yes! College students, Doctors, Nurses...everyone that is in a hurry 😆
amalia13lightning 8 points 2y ago
the atmosphere is called "get in and get out" and i LOVE IT
GIPPINSNIPPINS 1 points 2y ago
I guess I understand that 😂
PSessions [OP] 5 points 2y ago
Oh we still have the great Spotify Starbucks music.
AndrewtheRey 6 points 2y ago
Is this a licensed store?
Baristasonfridays 19 points 2y ago
No, it’s a new concept of store that Starbucks has been designing and trying at certain locations!
sten45 14 points 2y ago
Testing reducing labor and overhead to the absolute minimum
PSessions [OP] 3 points 2y ago
We actually have 18 partners on board and 4 in leadership..
PSessions [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Yes we are a licensed store.
happypoptart0 4 points 2y ago
Filling out a transfer sheet ASAP
LeoTheNinja220 3 points 2y ago
I've hated mobile orders since they came out because they mess up the flow of our other bars, but I feel like a setup like this could actually be pretty nice?
PSessions [OP] 2 points 2y ago
It really is! Before training, I couldn't fathom how this would work but the flow is somewhat seamless. Tickets come to specific printers, we sequence drinks and keep it movin
Catpants21 3 points 2y ago
Literally the dream.
frappeyourmom 3 points 2y ago
Someone is totally going to drive thru that window asking to place an order.
kendrasparker 3 points 2y ago
i’ve worked drive thru only. it’s pretty nice. the only downsides to spots like this tho is how incredibly busy they seem to become
lilcox1419 2 points 2y ago
I’m bitter bc our doors opened today for seating. Apparently we will be allowing 50% capacity from the get go. Stay safe, beans of all ages.
PSessions [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Wow.
lilcox1419 1 points 2y ago
My concerns are, will we be temp gunning ppl upon entry? Will we ask to see their vaccination cards? Our lobby gets packed sometimes so how will we keep our distance if there are 17 ppl seated, 4-8 baristas behind the bar and the lobby full of ppl? I was looking for a reason to drop out of ASU and quit Sbux and it looks like this might be it, unless I’m missing information about how we will operate differently.
PSessions [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I do hope your concerns are addressed. It can be a very scary time for a lot of people. We do temp our partners/leads before start of shift upon entry and our max inside for pick up is 6...I'm usually the voice of reminder when it comes to that part. Hopefully it will work out for you. Health and Safety 1st!
z71z 2 points 2y ago
How does this effect the tips? What are you making an hour in cash tips? How about digital?
PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Doesn't affect it. Customers still tip when they come in and pick up their orders.
z71z 1 points 2y ago
Interesting. I have found we make more off tips from the drive thru window than the mobile pick up
SSFF6B 2 points 2y ago
Ok but what about customer connections? Do y’all have to worry about those?
PSessions [OP] 2 points 2y ago
We most definitely still have the opportunity to connect with our customers. We are visible to them at concierge, handoff, CS, bar...there are windows that we are able see out of when customers come in and we always greet them with "Hi! WELCOME IN" (sounds like the cast of Cheers 😆). We connect about everything from Finals week to Nurses working their 3rd double and could really use that Quad shot!
KarluhO 2 points 2y ago
The dream!
PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I love it!
Alternative_Blacks 2 points 2y ago
I like this a lot!!

PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago

trxnkxtty 1 points 2y ago

AchillesHealed 1 points 2y ago
Let me guess though, half of the orders are placed 15 seconds before the customer walks in, and they're absolutely shocked and indignant that their order isn't ready and waiting for them.
PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Believe it or not, that's a rarity. Not that it doesn't happen, but it's not as bad as you think. If I'm honest, the only part that does bother me is if they arrive after the 30 minute mark....wasted time and product.
totaledtick9544 1 points 2y ago
heavenly
Albatross241 1 points 2y ago
I would love to work at one for the first few months just to say no to all the customers that don’t read the door.
“Do you have the black pointy cup?” “No”
“I want to get a gift card...” “No”
Nirvana.
[deleted] 1 points 2y ago
I stopped scrolling at just the right moment for that to read Starbucks D*** and I thought I had strayed into the wrong sub
jamiecatherin 1 points 2y ago
A dream
bitter-barista 1 points 2y ago
*cue angels singing*
This looks like absolute heaven to work in.
I'm a wee bit jelly💚
PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Right!!! 😆. It is a nice place to work. We're still making connections with our customers and giving them the ultimate experience of getting in an out.
taserbabyy 1 points 2y ago
We’re fixing to get one of these in SC! Catch is they’re doing this instead of renovating our tiny, outdated cafe only 😭
PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Awwww. Well I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
PSessions [OP] 1 points 2y ago
That is correct. Our partners are well versed on communication. Whoever is on Warming/Brew will keep us abreast
Spare_Photograph 1 points 2y ago
Starbuck's learning from Luckin' coffee's Chinese idea. Nice.
