First week you will be paired with a barista trainer, you will learn about 50% of what you need to know, the rest comes through on floor practice and experience. You will be trained as you have never worked customer service before. Half is online training half is on the floor introductions to stations.
Most partners can take up to 3-6 months to be trusted to bar during peak times. Although I have trained some who were able to bar peak after 2ish. If you want to cut that time and get yourself off window and ovens 24/7, beg your supervisors to put you on bar with strong people during slower/medium times so you can learn. You cant learn drinks if you aren’t making them and training only covers like idek 60% of drinks depending on how in depth your trainer goes.
Its stressful and you need to not be afraid to ask for help. Hopefully your trainer will actually care and your fellow baristas will be openly and willing to help.
Yes you will be slow at first that is ok. Yes you will make a ton of mistakes thats ok. Keep a postive attitude, it stresses other people out when you are stressed. New partners who bring a positive attitude and are excited to be a part of the team make the team excited to work with them. Good luck. Pm if you have any other questions and ill get back to you!
