Licensed store homies sound off in the comments I need advice! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Spiritual_Tomatillo1
Recently I have been noticing my Store/General Manager including themselves in the tip pool everyday that they work.
The way we do tips at my store is that the amount tipped on that specific day is divided among those who worked, by their hours.

Now I have also noticed that my store/general manager receives overtime and is at the store hours past close to work. I feel like including themselves in our tip pool when they are not a wage worker or on the floor doing barista duties is a violation of our rights as wage workers (pls correct me if I am wrong)
Are managers (at a licensed store) not included in tips usually? Some of the baristas have noticed their tips do not reflect the amount that they should be receiving based on how much was tipped that day. And I wonder if our store/general manager including themselves has altered the tip pool drastically due to their long hours.

Thanks for the advice in advance,

Concerned barista

I’m a corporate barista so take this with a grain of salt but our SM and ASM are never included in our tip pool bc they are salaried employees and they are off the floor a lot doing admin work. I’d reach out to someone higher up about this because it doesn’t sound right.

Hmm this sounds really really wrong...I don’t know the rules and I’m not at a licensed store but from what I understand and at my store management does not get tips. In my state shift supervisors can’t even get tips.

I work at a licensed store in a Market Street (which I lovingly call Marbucks haha) but our manager and assistant manager only take tips unless they’re actually behind the counter with us. Whenever they’re off doing inventory or manager stuff they’ll remind us not to include them in the tip split.

Sadly we only are able to receive cash tips (no tip screen on the terminal for cards/contactless and tip screen doesn’t appear on the app) so we just dump out whatever we’ve got in the jar when someone arrives/leaves and split evenly.
