Unreliable partners should be scheduled less hours no matter how open their availability is
sdkid92 81 points 2y ago
Had a partner who called out all the time. This finally happened to them, though it took longer than it should have. They looked at the schedule and blurted out,” Why don’t I have that many hours”? We all looked at each other in shock and confusion. 😧😂
bitchmcconnelll 37 points 2y ago
I wish it was this easy, but store managers can be accused of retaliation and that is an instantly fireable offense 🙃
echowolf9 22 points 2y ago
I’ve seen many store managers retaliate and they still have their job.
MrsOceanGrown 8 points 2y ago
It’s not “retaliation” if they’re also having those verbal warnings with those partners who are unreliable. My SM will sit down with them and explain their reputation for calling out a lot is not beneficial to business and Starbucks “mission statement”. Hours are “deserved” according to my SM AND DM.
LatterRooster 7 points 2y ago
Not my old SM. She got away with everything

🙃
ah09022 50 points 2y ago
Even better..... You don't want those hours, but your teamworks still looks like that 😬
keithct6 18 points 2y ago
yup that’s my life. fucking understaffing will be the death of us
ah09022 24 points 2y ago
I was pulling hours like that driving an hour and a half to a different store to train people, having to give rides, in such bad weather with no car of my own. I trained 12 people over the course of 5 weeks, and was only paid a training bonus for ONE of them, was told that I was not eligible for mileage to and from that store because I was agreeing to drive there 🙄 then my manager has the AUDACITY to tell me that she's going to fire me because my psychiatrist took me out of work because I was losing hair in handfuls over the stress of working and life outside of work and not being able to sleep from stress. She said to me, just use the headspace that Starbucks pays for for you! That'll fix it 🙃
feisty314 32 points 2y ago
Please call the Partner Care Center and report that you are not getting paid correctly for hours worked and that you are getting fired/being discriminated against because of a medical issue. These are both things you can file a complaint with your local department of labor/sue for (in the US at least), so that should get their attention.
ah09022 18 points 2y ago
Thank you! I will definitely be doing that because my situation at work has been absolute ass and it's felt like there's not much I can do except take the poor treatment
rosesandthorns17 19 points 2y ago
all the hours with none of the heads up sounds ab right lmao
meeeganthevegan 2 points 2y ago
They could have picked up those shifts from people who need less hours which moreso shows that managers should take into account how many hours the partners want and make the schedule according to that, not that the OP wasn't given a heads up.
rosesandthorns17 6 points 2y ago
you just made the same point I was making. Since the manager isn’t considering that OP wants more hours and others want less, OP ends up working more hours that they weren’t scheduled for. Since the actual hours they end up working aren’t scheduled, they aren’t seeing them in advance (i.e not getting a heads up)
aboyisagenius [OP] 11 points 2y ago
My manager gives all the hours to people who constantly don’t show up, and are just bad workers in general. Every week I ask for more hours, they go to the same people, those people either don’t show up or give them away, and I take them to compensate for the hours I’m not getting !! Love!!
rosesandthorns17 10 points 2y ago
Exactly like you should just be scheduled for the hours that you want and deserve so that you can actually know when you’re gonna be working and have the 3 weeks scheduling notice you are supposed to have
[deleted] 10 points 2y ago
Literally me, the week of may 10 I only got scheduled 23 hours but I bet I’m gonna end up working at least 30
Theotar 8 points 2y ago
This is why Seattle's sudden schedule charge should become a thing everwhere.
italyphoenix 6 points 2y ago
Could you elaborate on this? I haven’t heard of it before and am curious. Thanks in advance!
Theotar 12 points 2y ago
Seattle felt any worker being asked to stay past schedule was labor abuse. To fix this, companies had to pay additional money to the work for any change to hours within a given week period.
dstnygn 6 points 2y ago
that sounds good but also like it would incentivize managers to just have it be understaffed when someone calls out instead of trying to get a replacement at all
Theotar 2 points 2y ago
Well it kind of worked both ways. When there was really need for more staff and manager called for people, workers where more willing to come in because of the extra money.
sydbey_ 2 points 2y ago
I think we have this in Oregon I just can’t remember the name. Predictability pay? I moved from Texas about two years ago and I was surprised such a thing existed after staying late at every job ever
chr1styn 2 points 2y ago
It's working its way through in CT, idk if it's gonna pass, even with how progressive our legislature is.
LatteMaster 6 points 2y ago
How long have you worked there?
aboyisagenius [OP] 13 points 2y ago
4.5 years ((((((:
LatteMaster 15 points 2y ago
Yeah you should be getting all the hours you ask for, if not time to transfer.
LindaFromAccounting_ 2 points 2y ago
predictability tho ☺️
saddestgirl1995 2 points 2y ago
I felt this 💔
happilyeveremma 1 points 2y ago
And I bet that somehow your manager is gonna blame you for going over 40 hours 😭

for reals! scheduled 26 hours within 6 DAYS straight.... ended up with a 7th day and 14 hour shift. 48 hrs check
mrbubblegxm 1 points 2y ago
FRL I’m a minor and i’ve worked well over 40hrs several times. i’m not complaining doe. i need the money
rio8envy7 0 points 2y ago
This is about the normal number of hours unless you’re a shift
the1noir -14 points 2y ago
If you want more hours, do the leg work and look for more shifts from other stores.
There’s plenty, just gotta put in the effort.
Managers are allotted a certain amount of labor for the entire week. Looks like your manager managed to give you enough hours to make sure you are able to maintain your benefits.
Tylandredis 8 points 2y ago
looks like they’re understaffed and/or giving hours to unreliable workers and forcing OP to pick up all these extra hours with little to no notice.
same thing happens at my store. we have a girl scheduled every week who maybe shows up half the time. it took them 6 months to finally cut her hours and give them to people that show up eager to work. 🤷🏼
Sparklingghost 7 points 2y ago
“Just gotta put in the effort” so almost doubling their scheduled hours isn’t enough to show their great work ethic?
aboyisagenius [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Exaaaaactly thank you. My availability is completely open as well and I could open/close in my sleep. I don’t complain unless there’s actually shit to complain about,,,
the1noir -10 points 2y ago
It literally has nothing to do with work ethnic.
What’s their availability like? Can they only work Monday-Friday 5am-10:45am? They’ll get less hours then someone who has a much more open availability.
-
Are they a barista or supervisor? In all the stores I’ve worked at, supervisors get double the hours then baristas.
Your manager doesn’t owe you whatever hours you find convenient.

Homie is pressed

Did you even look at the photo? They were scheduled 26 and worked over 40 hours
