Are managers required to interview a certain # of people for open positions? Bc I'm getting real tired of this game... (self.starbucksbaristas)

Called in for my 3rd interview process for a barista position and at this point I'm like why bother, bc it sure feels like they are just interviewing a certain number of people when they already have someone else in mind. I'm really annoyed bc I've spent hours now with this company and like, my time is valuable too. I'm not on here to just fluff your number list, lady. Don't call me unless you're serious about hiring me. All 3 managers have said, "I have more interviews after you, I have more interviews all week!" And I'm just like...soooo this was all pointless?

They could have someone in mind, they may indeed have other interviews. Is there anything that sets you apart from other candidates in both good and bad ways? If other candidates have experience or customer service forward attitudes then they are much more likely to be picked imho. If you have something that negatively sets you apart from others perhaps they are using it as an excuse to skip over you. Its hard to tell to be honest without knowing you or the managers or the other applicants. Typically though, the store I work at is literally FLOODED with applicants.

The last one ended my interview with, you're perfect starbucks material so dont worry if you dont get this one, you'll definitely get something!" After going thru 2 interviews in 2 hours at that location. Getting there 30min early. Lots of food handlers experience (opened/closed/ran bakery all by myself for years.) Very friendly. No reason not to hire. I was like, gee, thanks, so basically you're not hiring me. I have no idea why. We had a very friendly, personable convo, talked about our kids, etc, laughed.

All I want to know is do they have a required number of applicants they HAVE to interview before offering someone the job? Bc I feel very jerked around at this point. I've been their "first interviewee of the week!" 3 times in a row now...

Technically you are not allowed to be discriminated against in any way when applying for and interviewing for a job, aside from perhaps criminal record ofc. However if five 16-18 year olds also apply happily accepting minimum wage and say they are eager to be part of a team made up of similar individuals I could see how you might get pushed to the back. How is the team at the location you are interviewing? Are they all very young? Also did you ask for more money than the starting wage? Also I am not sure there is “a required number” my manager has hired people literally on the spot before.

Didnt ask for higher pay, completely open 24/7 schedule wise. Yes, mostly young people. Teens and 20s.

Maybe in every case someone is just more appealing to the manager. Dont want to say you arent over qualified but the manager might just not like you or may like someone better. How many hours did you ask for?

They could interview as many or as few as they want. It's up to them.

We've just started a new process of interviewing that is way more intricate than it used to be, which would explain why it's taking several rounds of interviews. My team hasn't done the training yet, so i don't have any details, but i do know that the timeline for recruiting to hired is about three times as long as it used to be.

I'm short, it's not personal. We're learning to do things differently and the rollout might be clunky.
