hey y’all, I’m officially becoming a barista trainer in 2 weeks, can anyone give me some tips and tricks if you were once a barista trainer yourself? :) <33

I love asking people what kind of learner they are (visual, kinesthetic, etc.) so I can adjust how I’m teaching them! It really really helps. Also teach them to take their time at bar so they don't make Category 5 hurricane messes like I did in the beginning.

When you train them on a flat white I let them make it first then find an excuse not to make one. Lmao

I like to make flash cards on shots, syrup pumps, and the CS cycle that they can keep in their aprons. I also encourage them and try to be a safe person they can come to for anything Starbucks related or not, because it can be really overwhelming for new beans.

Take it as slow as they’re comfortable, and explain the “why” of everything, and you’ll do great. :)

it’s definitely better to over explain than under explain!! and encourage your baristas to try everything you show them bc believe me when i say there will be trainees who don’t want to try :/ patience is key as well!! and don’t feel bad when some trainees don’t turn out great/quit after a week ESPECIALLY if you’re putting in your effort! some people just refuse to pick up what you lay down unfortunately

If it’s slow. Use that special cup. The trainer and a green bean were playing with it and they said “hey shift! Why don’t you make one?” I made a latte and when it settled it was literally perfect. I’m still not sure if I’m that good or if it was dumb luck😁
