Shift just kinda sits in the back for the majority of shifts (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SpookySteve
Title says it all. I've been in my store for nearly two years, and one of our shifts who is vying for a position as an SM is the kind of person who will sit in the back for a good chunk of time at the desk, sitting on Snapchat and eating. If we're struggling, it's like pulling teeth to get them to help out and when they do, they're sluggish and have zero sense of urgency.

Meanwhile, they're incredibly judgmental and catty; won't really give ample feedback or communication unless something is in it for them. Just flat out passive-aggressive and will go out of their way to make your life hell. I want to do something about it, but they're in tight with our SM who is somewhat similar. Any suggestions?

Anonymous tips to dm, have all partners with similar feelings report as well. If enough people report it will get investigated.

I was in this exactly same situation when I was a barista (I’m an SSV now, and no the kind that sit in the back and do nothing😂) I would message or call your DM and report it

That sucks and it’s not the job. I hate being off the floor. The only time I’m in the back is for the pulls and ordering. The rest of the time I’m running stuff for planted baristas or covering breaks.

It's even more frustrating considering when they've been opening SSV, there have been times when they just didn't do the pull, they notoriously don't even start the deposit, etc. Depending on who is scheduled for that day, they will just chitchat and gossip and even ask people they like to stay longer so they can sort of hang out together.

I’m sorry. I’m with the report them people. If I was that bad, I’d expect to be reported.

I can’t even imagine. It’s so unusual for our shifts to be off the floor. The only time is first in the morning when they place the order and midday when the do the pull. I’m sure nights are different (I’m an opener) but still. When I come in during the afternoons/evenings, the shift is always on the floor.

Wrote about this in your partner survey every week and give your store number but don’t name names. Also you can contact partner resources
