I’ve been at the bux for 2 years (SSV for 1) - Ask questions! You’re probably going to have a lot of information thrown your way pretty quickly so don’t be embarrassed if you don’t remember everything or forget details.

Try not to let customers get to you. There are going to be customers that are rude to you for no reason, but try and let those go. Laugh about them with your coworkers and don’t let them live rent free in your head. You’re also going to have really great customers - hold on to those. Most customers aren’t going to be really nice, they’re not going to be rude they just want to get their sugar coffee and leave.

When you’re on register for the first time and until you really get comfortable with it, ask them to slow down or repeat their order. I told people I was new/it was my first week for my first month at the bux and most people were pretty nice and would repeat or slow down until I had it right.

And the most important thing: it’s just coffee. Don’t take the stress home with you at night, and don’t let customers walk over you. If you have a customer that’s making you uncomfortable or is refusing to comply with policy, tell your shift or SM. It’s part of our job to support you and deal with irate customers. You deserve to feel safe at work and you can always step away from an interaction if you feel unsafe. Be kind to your fellow baristas and extend as much grace as possible to your customers since we’re all in the same storm but we’re weathering that storm in different boats.

Congrats! I started end of March and I like it so far. My store is the 2nd busiest in the state so it's been hectic. Im not sure if it's the same all around but training is about a week then you kind of learn as you do it. Don't feel pressured to go the speed as everyone else. Ask questions. Don't take things personally. (All easier said than done lol) oh! And you'll be sticky most of the time. good luck!

Welcome to the crew!!! Ive been a barista coming up on 3 years now, and my first store I was at for most of my years here was located inside a mall food court next to the theater. It would get unbearably insane lol.

My advice to you is to not be afraid to ask questions. There is alot of steps and minor differences between drink recipes, and your fellow partners should be willing to help you figure things out after training.

Alot of it is muscle memory! Once you get the small differences and recipes remembered it becomes super easy so dont be intimidated by bar!

Good luck!!
