Can somebody help out this fellow Green Bean regarding the measurements for making cold drinks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by whatjever
I'm going into my fifth and final day of training tomorrow and I still feel clueless regarding the measurements (using the blue shaker cups) of cold drinks like refreshers, lemonades, teas, and 'drinks'. I've asked my trainer multiple times regarding the measurements and each time she goes over all of them so quickly and looks at me in a degrading manner so it's gone to a point where I feel embarrassed to ask her again even though I do not have a very good understanding of the measurements for everything.

I know the shakers are clearly labeled with words like 'tea', 'infusion', and 'water/juice' so it seems simple but I feel like many of the differences regarding the cold drinks are very minimal to the point where I accidentally make the wrong type of drink. Literally the only two things I remember with cold drinks is that 'drinks' are the only ones that use coconut milk, when making refreshers the liquid juice base always goes to the first line, and the inclusion scoops go 1/1/1/2 (and I'm not even sure these three things are correct).

I would genuinely appreciate any help or tips I can get with remembering the recipes for each type of cold drink!

you’re correct on those three things!! i also struggled with cold bar haha so you’re definitely not alone. tea base and refresher base will ALWAYS go to that first line. so that’s never going to change. from there:

-if it’s a drink with juice, like the guava black tea/lemonade or the peach green tea/lemonade, you put the juice up to the “juice” line, then fill up to the next line with either water or lemonade, depending on what drink it is

-if it’s a regular tea, you’ll fill up to the top line with either water or lemonade, whichever the drink requires

-for refreshers, it’s easy – once the base is in, the rest will be either water, lemonade, or coconut milk (regular refreshers are water, refresher lemonades are lemonade, and “drinks” are coconut milk)

-for all of these, you then add the ice (and inclusions if it’s a refresher based beverage, and sweetener if it’s asked for) and shake!

there are a few outlier drinks like the matcha lemonade, guava passionfruit drink, etc., and to be honest i don’t really know how to make those without asking for help because they get ordered so infrequently at my store, i don’t know if ive made more than 2 or 3 in my 8 months being a barista lol. and dont be afraid to keep asking questions – the nice thing is that once you’re not in training anymore and you’re just working on the floor, you can ask any of the other baristas you’re working with, not just your trainer. you got this!!! :)

guava passionfruit drink is another "drink" if that helps! it's half coconut milk, half guava juice, and cbs pumps of pineapple ginger.

matcha lemonade is officially half water, half lemonade, and appropriate scoops of matcha, but i know a lot of baristas make it with no water-- so don't worry, no one is alone in this confusion!

I'm making myself a Quizlet and this genuinely helped so much! Thanks.
