Trenta rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Cooch_2119
I’m SO sick of customer connections and how much it’s pushed despite how customers treat us. With all these shortages it’s been hell on cafe bar and dtr/dto
I’m literally at the point where I would rather loose my job then be yelled at by a customer about something completely out of my control and respond with a smile and kiss ass attitude.
So many crappy people today, this lady came in and started grabbing a bunch of mobile orders behind the plexi glass trying to find the one with her name on it and I told her she can’t do that and to please not reach behind the glass and she literally yelled at me that we need to make the sign easier to read then. It literally says “ please do not grab orders and ask a barista for help if you are picking up a mobile” she then continued to scoff at me and give me dirty looks and yank the straw out of my hand when I handed it to her. I was then told I should have tried to say it a little nicer.
Another lady came in through dtr while I was solo drive and was off the bat rude and ofc went from rude to angry as soon as I told her we were out of oat milk she was so short with me and giving me attitude the whole time . I asked her if she wanted a straw with her venti iced drink and she in the rudest way possible said no and then ofc when I handed her her drink she angry said that she asked for a straw. She then drove off without paying Bc her payment didn’t go through and she pulled away when I tried to ask her to stay. Again told I should have tried to be kinder (without the person in question hearing any of our interaction at the window) and told it just have been something I did to get her to be annoyed.
This whole concept of customer connections gets way out of hand. I don’t understand why we go to such lengths to please rude people were just rewarding that type of behavior.
I seriously considered quitting today, 10 hour shift and it was full of the worst people something must have been in the air. I’d rather deal with the consequences of having to find a new job then deal with the mental abuse customers have been putting me through lately. Anyways

This whole "the customer is always right" is complete bull. The customers rarely know the facts and are constantly rude. I'm so sorry you had to experience this and I'm even more frustrated that your superiors didn't take your side smh

I feel like even these two interactions aren’t even that bad compared to most but god they really made me mad today lol

Customers have been a new breed lately.

Some guy yelled at me a couple weeks ago because when I told him to wait where he was while I looked for something he followed me and then when I had to deal with something else for my boss he was briefly forgotten (like literally 3mins).

People have grown impatient and unruly. It's so unfair to people working in the service industry, especially fast food services, you guys are just trying to help and instead of thanked you get yelled at.

And I knowww it doesn't happen with every customer, but it's truly the negative ones we remember the most.

Edit: sorry this is so long, it's just something that angers me greatly. Why can't people just be nice ya know??

I completely agree. Between the customers acting like this and not having any backing from management/corporate whatsoever I’m looking for another job. I’ve been with the company 3 years and I love the job itself (making drinks, having genuine connections, etc) but all this extra stuff (customer connection score, rating system) is too much. I’m sorry you had to deal with 10 hours of this :/

10 hours of that sounds awful -- what state are you located in?

Your shifts/managers aren’t supportive whatsoever! What are your thoughts on transferring stores (if you decide not to quit)? The customers get crazy sometimes 😞
