I read in the weekly update a few weeks ago starbucks was following cdc guidelines over state and federal rules so that would mean continuing to require masks I would contact your dm and get an answer from them

I thought that Starbucks policy was still wearing a mask, however depending on your state mandate that might negate whether or not customers are required to wear one.

My heart goes out to you!! These times are super rough and the added stress of people unwilling to cooperate for the general public safety is frustrating.

Private business > State mandate.

I'm in TX and our mandate was lifted as well, but we still require masks inside

I live in alabama so i definitely understand the struggle. Our mandate was lifted a few weeks ago but we still require masks in store, and i thought that was the company policy? our cafe isn’t open yet though. Definitely strange. I would express my concerns to the SM if I were you.

Complain to your DM, complain to partner resources, ask all your partners in your store and district to do the same. As far as I know nationwide we are still requiring masks. At some point when case counts get low enough we'll reopen, and DMs have some discretion over this, but if everyone complains then it might make your SM and DM reconsider.

in our store we opened cafe and masks must be on at all times if ur not eating or drinking

So the thing is there really is no right answer to your question. Yes, Starbucks requires customers to wear masks while inside the store unless eating or drinking (which should be done while seated). But if you look at the new Customer Facial Covering - Scenarios and Talking Points, it says that: "Your goal is to minimize disruption and keep everyone safe, not to reinforce policy if a customer refuses to wear a facial covering." (Note that that makes absolutely no sense, but ok.)

This causes me to believe that Starbucks has finally realized that a significant percentage of its customers don't give one shit about our mask policy and that Starbucks has admitted that they care more about pleasing customers than about their mask policy.

we have to “keep everyone safe” but can’t “reinforce policy if a customer refuses a mask”...okay, starbucks. i guess keeping the anti-maskers comfortable is more important than a pandemic that is still spreading like crazy.

why have policies if we can’t reinforce them anyways??screw corporate tbh 🙄🙄

I think the point Starbucks is trying to make now is that it's sometimes not only easier for all involved but even safer to just give the customer what they want so they get out the door more quickly. That's what my store manager suggested. Starbucks is trying to advise us to make judgment calls rather than to enforce the policy to its fullest extent 100% of the time (which we all know is impossible and infeasible). Here's a pretty clear-cut example: A customer comes into the store without a mask on. They go to the hand-off plane, which is where we hand off mobile orders. They've placed a mobile order, and it's ready. I'm now of the mindset that it's probably safer, and a hell of a lot easier, to give them their stuff so they go out the door. The other option is to direct them to the masks we placed at the front register (we're not even supposed to do this, but we did because it makes our jobs easier) and hope they put one on correctly. If people read signs, informed themselves, and cared about public safety and following government mandates and the rules of business establishments, none of this would be an issue. But they don't. And we're a business that exists to serve coffee to these crappy people.

I live and work in NH and our state mandate just got lifted, but we're still wearing masks until told otherwise by corporate
Chemical-Less 3 points 2y ago
To hell with starbucks policy, it's against federal law to not have a mask on inside a business, irregardless if they can wear one outside. Sbux would rather risk it's workers get sick than make a customer who's actively harming them angry. I say continue to kick them out, it's for your own safety and the law is far more important than the policy of a corporation who doesn't care about you

My cafe opened up a few weeks ago, but people have to wear mask until they sit down and are eating/drinking. People still try to come in without wearing them, but we ask them to leave if they won’t wear one.

I’m in eastern Washington, and it baffles me how Idaho works.

I would call BOTH Partner Resources and possibly Ethics & Compliance. I don’t have to wear shoes to walk on the street, there is no law, but I a business CAN kick me out for not having them. Same with a mask.

Contact your DM and partner resources. If they tell you to follow policy do so. If they tell you to follow your state mandate unfortunately you’ll have too.

corporate itself makes these decisions. im also pretty sure we can technically refuse service to anyone no matter the reason if im not mistaken? also there is no reason you shouldnt be able to feel safe at your workplace. your SM is surely doing this to increase connection scores or something.
