tall rant in a grande cup (mask policy) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cinnamonmarigold
I’m a shift, and I had two interactions with customers today who did not want to wear a mask in the store. (The county mandate in our area was just lifted, even though city and store hasn’t. Either way, people are getting a little more careless.)

The first woman was a mom who was throwing a tantrum and had her children order, pay for, and wait for her coffee because she didn’t want to put on a mask that she had. That selfishness was beyond me. If the masks are too bad for you, how are they not for your kids? My mom would’ve been the same way, and I feel for them.

The second woman, probably late 50s or early 60s, came up to the counter all smiley when I asked her if she could put on a mask while she was in the store, and that we could bring her drink to her on the patio if she didn’t want to wait wearing a mask. Still happy as a clam, she said, “Oh, sorry! I don’t have one!”

She was not happy when I offered her an option of two different masks right there at the register and promptly told me, much less cheerfully than she had before, that she would be simply taking her business elsewhere.

“Have a beautiful rest of your weekend!” I yelled to her as she hauled ass out of the store.

My store is closed for two weeks because we had several cases and other who are exposed, to the point that we didn’t have the staff to stay open. No Shirts No Shoes No service has been on every restaurant I’ve ever been to. Stores have the right to set their own policy and if the customers don’t like it, they can bugger off.

Same. We’ve been busier than ever because the two stores closest to me are closed due to COVID. I worked three shifts with COVID, and nobody at my store got sick. People I saw without masks did get sick from me. Not proud of that. It’s just wild that people want to fight. I’m so tired. I don’t want to be law enforcement anymore.

i literally went in the back and cried yesterday after arguing with a customer who refused to wear a mask and literally wouldn’t even look at me when i was talking to him. both he and his wife (who was actually wearing the mask) were interrupting me if they weren’t outright ignoring me. i’m so tired of this. i didn’t sign up to risk my health begging customers to put some fabric over their face for five minutes.

My coworkers haven’t really been enforcing the mask mandate lately I don’t know why but they like “don’t notice “ when someone isn’t wearing a mask which is odd Bc they used to enforce it all the time. So now I’m the one constantly telling everyone to wear their mask and wear it right. I was on dtr today and had to tell a customer on the opposite end of the store at the registers to put their mask on even tho another coworker was ringing them up. People are driving me crazy

We have a regular that comes in and wears one of those fake mesh masks. Like yeah there’s something on your face but there’s massive holes in it and it’s sure as hell not stopping anything from getting in or out. Why go through the same effort to put on a useless mask when you could use the same amount of effort to put on a real one?? I’m so tired of putting in the effort to protect everyone around me when others won’t do the same for me.

My manager actually told me off the other day bc Ive been too "aggressive" with the customers by telling them to put their masks on. Like our customer connection score matters more than the actual safety and wellbeing of my fellow baristas!!! Fuck off!! I feel insane being one of the only people in my whole store hounding customers to keep their masks on bc my manager would rather us be nice over actually enforcing a state law that's keeping us from getting a potentially lethal disease

My SM is the same way & it’s so aggravating!! I’m sorry I can’t control that the majority of these people completely lose their minds when I ask them to wear a face covering...? Today this guy came in without a mask who was visibly sick & could barely get 2 words out without coughing, but of course I get a lecture about customer connections

mask mandate got lifted in my city too and ugh i hate when they act all cheerful and shit as if that'll make us less likely to ask them to put on a mask. And then they get so pissy as if that's not still the policy of most restaurants.

Yeah. I've been dealing with kind of stuff every shift for the past 6 months. Some people just don't care, and can't be bothered to show basic human decency to the people who work retail to serve them.
