Me: part time worker, full time pre-med, has a breakdown at work, almost quits*
My manager: *schedules me for 12 days straight full time*
🥲

Yes legal Anyone can be scheduled for as many hours as a business needs. Said worker just has to be paid *overtime* for hours
Ethical? No
Sounds like you need to quit

Unfortunately yes, it is legal. My old job used to schedule me like that consistently. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this. I hope things work out in the end

I had a 50 hour work week when I worked at ups and the owners/managers basically blamed it on me like they weren't the ones scheduling me 40 hours and asking me to come in or stay late.

I know everyone else it's saying it's legal, but I would encourage you to check your state and city labor laws
Hoax_Pudding_Cup4 points2y ago
This. In my state it's against the law to be scheduled without a 24 hour rest period in between a week period. There's a lot of ways around this, such as getting off at 1:30 pm and being scheduled to start at 1:30 pm the next day, but I believe it's Starbucks policy that they cannot schedule you on your day off on your availability sheet, and if they do they *must* get your expressed permission.

If you don't want to quit yet I'd recommend changing your availability so you can guarantee you have at least 1 day off per week.

It depends. Are you a minor? What state are you in? How many hours a week are you scheduled for? The legality of this really really depends on the answers. For example in my state since I'm a minor I cannot legally work for more than 6 days in a row.

Not sure about legality but maybe try updating your availability for school and set time aside for getting your coursework done and classes. You could also try setting times you can’t work everyday so that you only have an 8 hour window open to work at Starbucks, I wish you luck ❤️this job is not more important than your school, your physical health, or your mental health❤️

It’s so weird, I never work more than 25 hours ever. I just got a new manager this past week and suddenly my hours sky rocketed. I ended up texting my new manager and she said she didn’t create the schedule but my old manager never put hours like that on my schedule because he’s aware of my schooling times... and my schedule was updated too, as in I had my normal hours but someone changed them.
