The power of crying (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by E-hugs519
In this job I have discovered the power of crying. I've always cried very easily and tried to hide it, but when a customer is tearing into you, crying makes them stop. Crying makes them realize they are yelling at a fellow human being and someone's daughter.

Except for the one lady that I encountered, who then screamed “why are you crying?!” at full volume.

Or the man that’s a total psychopath who actually ENJOYS making us cry.
Fuck you Augustus.
DreyaNova 50 points 2y ago
Fuck that. Augustus is getting decaf.
jupiter_bug 44 points 2y ago
Augustus is getting nothing and will be asked to leave
misswallflowerr 24 points 2y ago

“There’s no crying in baseball!”
Loose_Ad_6654 4 points 2y ago
I never decaf people.. I give them extra shots.. I just find more humor in making them jumpy or at best anxious

That could potentially boost tips too, lol!

Can confirm, when I was at a corporate store a guy made me cry and we got a $20 tip and some lady ordered us pizza. It absolutely made the asshole worth dealing with.

Now that I say that, I’m slightly ashamed that getting screamed at is worth $20 split between a dozen people and a slice of pizza.....

Once a fellow barista spilled a whole pitcher of almond milk right in front of the drive thru window and the person waiting for their drink felt so bad they threw a $10 in the tip jar. 🤷‍♀️ it ain't much but it's honest work

The power of laughing has the most entertaining effect
_dreamsofthedead_ 58 points 2y ago
I am physically unable to cry for some reason so I just laugh. And that's why I'm always on bar and not drive thru 😂
dead-ramone 8 points 2y ago
LOL same here

crying in the bathroom while my co worker is crying in the bathroom next to me is a true bonding experience.
Wonderful_Nightmare 29 points 2y ago
Crying in the bathroom is my 3rd place 😌

The true Starbucks experience

At this point I’m just gonna cry all the time then bc I usually bottle it up and step off the floor for a bit until I’m ready to get back out there.

Y'all are nicer than I. I used to go really quiet and wait for them to breathe and then say in my best Batman voice "You are not allowed to speak to anyone here that way". If they continued to yell? I stared. More yelling? More staring. Either the SM would come out and take care of it or they would calm TF down. I'm old AF and yelling at senior citizens makes people really look bad. Yelling at anyone is horrible, but yelling at the Starbucks Granny? Boooooooo

I get overwhelmed on drive thru some time but most of my partners are guys and the girls are all older then me and I feel like they will look down on me or make fun of my so I usually just force my eyes to dry themselvs

Don't ever let anyone make you feel like it's not ok to express whatever emotion you're feeling
LatterRooster 11 points 2y ago
Yes, when I’m having a bad day in the store and a customer comes to the window after a 15 min wait in line... I say “ I appreciate your patience, we are short a few people and things are going rough”
Edit: this will get more tips on occasion instead of more attitude

Crying is your body way of saying that everything is going to be okay and you clear the toxins
stubrocks 7 points 2y ago
What's someone doing that made you cry?
nikkicarter1111 12 points 2y ago
Usually being customers. Sometimes customers are the most awful people
RoaringDragonite 5 points 2y ago
You are a human! You do whatever you gotta do to make it through the work day.

Better to cry on company time than on your own time!

i got so mean i would yell back . i couldn’t take being talked to like that by strangers so i would be taken to the back by people cause they could hear it in my voice .

Omg I’m a huge crier too but I’m new so I haven’t dealt with too much yet. I’ll probably be taking this advice tho lmaooo

Getting overwhelmed on bar and sobbing into my mask because its peak and litterly no one can help me shouldnt be the only way for the store to realize that theyre being too hard on us about our times in the DT. Like customers suck, but the store itself is whats killing all our baristas. They havent put me on bar durring peak since then and im never not on bar durring peak because im one of the 4 or 5 faster baristas in our store

I hate showing those types of emotions to people that don’t give a fuck about me, I’m a raging pregnant bitch and I will laugh in your face if you’re mean to me.
