Been with the siren for 6 months. Worked my first ever fully staffed shift. It was amazing. No panic attacks. No crying. Got to go on my lunch at a decent time. Got two tens. Drank water. Not even jerk customers got to me. Everyone was happy. Is this what hope looks like?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Don’t get used to it...

If they're not giving you your required breaks, please say something. Call corporate if you have to. Please review your state laws and Starbucks policy. I don't care how busy it gets. Advocate for yourself. If managers suffer cuz employees take their breaks, that's their problem to handle, not yours. They're literally hired as managers to deal with staffing and breaks and stuff like that.

Also make sure you don’t inadvertently sign your breaks away. I worked for a Dennys that did that. They kinda slid it into all the paper work you had to sign.

They can do that?
meloscav2 points2y ago
In some states, yes. I’m in NC and I’ve seen it before

Yeah it appears so. It was a franchised store and they can do what they wish I guess. Immoral absolutely, illegal I’m not sure. Tbh we were always so busy it wasn’t worth taking a break. I’m sure many here have the mindset that they’d feel bad taking a break during busy hours.

Depending on the state laws, some states do not require to give breaks

THIS! As a shift, breaks are the most important to me. People get burnt out, myself included. We deserve our breaks.

It’s a trap!

I run my peaks with 9/10 people during the week. Fri-Sun we have 12/13 people peaks. It wasn’t always like this. Our city is the process of opening back up again. We’re a cafe reserve bar store in the downtown area. The people are flocking in like crazy. It’s nice to be staffed accordingly.

I agree that you probably shouldn't get used to it, but let this be a day that fuels your energy and hope anyway! Enjoy your job as best as you can. :)

There will always be ups and downs my friend, the word "hope" is a trap. When you start to believe there is hope, you will expect perfect days/shifts at work, but soon you will solely disappoint yourself.
