Start training next week, just found out I’m pregnant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by xobradley
Like the title says... I’m beginning my training next week, and just found out last night that I’m about 7 weeks pregnant. I realize it’s still early on, but I’m feeling really overwhelmed. I’m 30 years old, I just got hired, and I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this and it was okay? Or ‘turned out okay’?

Part of me is like this is crazy to start something so new, while I’m also growing a baby... but I really could use the money, stability, and structure.

Has anyone else found out they were expecting days before training began? How did you tell your manager? And also... how was the experience being pregnant while working at Starbucks, were coworkers supportive, how was going back to work after?

Any advice, stories? All thoughts/experiences/suggestions/ideas welcome.

Thank you ❤️

This did not happen to me but I have a partner who worked at Starbucks throughout pregnancy. They have accommodations for this. I would talk to your manager to make a specific plan! Congratulations!!

thank you very much for your experience and this advice 🙏🏻 were you understanding of their pregnancy and limitations as their coworker? did it feel like a burden ever?

Actually no. Her performance wasn’t a problem. I had just started when she found out about her pregnancy and she stayed until 9 months and she was a great worker until she left!

one of my coworkers was hired several months pregnant, and worked through another pregnancy. she’s one of our best!!! we’ve had other partners be pregnant too. i think they’ve both had difficulties with some tasks, but it was pretty easy to work around those. i can’t say for sure as i wasn’t the one pregnant, but i think partners were generally supportive. i would just try to find a time to chat with your manager to just let them know and see if there’s anything accommodation-wise they may recommend for you now, and just to keep them aware of it for in the future. also congrats on both the pregnancy and new job!!

thank you so much for this, every reply is a little weight lifted off my anxiety around this whole thing. it’s really nice to hear she’s one of the best, and i would hope i can also show my fellow partners i’m a hard worker, resilient, and reliable! this will be my first pregnancy + first food service job at the same time, a lot to learn. also, i don’t have any friends with children, and haven’t been really be around anyone during their pregnancy, so i have no real reference on it, so thank you again 🙏🏻
