What's the point? (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I work at Starbucks in the UK. We have to ask customers without a mask if they have one. If they don't we have to give them one. If they're exempt that's fine. But for those who just deny to wear a mask there's nothing we can do about. We have to serve them. So here's my question. What is the point of asking if my hands are tied?

That’s how I felt at my last job. They had me do the exact same thing so I just stopped asking after about a week of it. At my current job (Starbucks in the US) and we are allowed to deny them service if they won’t put on a mask and I very much appreciate that.

Oh no at my store (in the USA) we first ask if you have a mask, offer you one if you don’t, and if you won’t wear one we kick you out of the store. EVEN if you have an “exemption,” because you are not required to wear a mask to use the drive thru or curbside pickup. My store basically has zero tolerance for mask issues.
Short story: Last Sunday a man refused to keep his mask on and not sit and eat inside (our indoor seating is closed), so a shift made him wait outside while his wife waited for the drinks inside. He was so mad waiting outside that he threw his banana bread at our store windows.

At my store we have to greet them first, followed by a, hey do you have a mask because we require you to wear one. If they don't put it on we still have to take their order regardless and they can choose whether or not to wait in the cafe in the back or outside.
