How do you guys make your outfits look cute for work?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by agigante02
I'm the type of person who loves putting together a nice outfit and I start in two days. After looking over the dress code 100 times I can't figure out any outfits that actually go together and it feels like I have no clothes that fit the dress code.
Dazzling_Cut_686267 points2y ago
Unfortunately, with the amount of syrup and stuff I get all over myself, any cute outfit I wear would not last long and I don’t suggest it to anyone else really. 😢
agigante02 [OP]11 points2y ago
oh no :( i didnt think of it that way :/
idkcassie16 points2y ago
never fear! wear your apron & short sleeves/rolled up sleeves, and just be cautious! everything you can get on your clothes at work (except mocha!! it’s evil >:( ) washes out easy enough.
Final-Course98302 points2y ago
I’ve gotten a whole pump of mocha out of a light blue button up. 🙃
idkcassie7 points2y ago
I’m in aw of you. I spilled mocha all over my pride shirt (the cream colored one from 2019, I think) and it never came out so the front of mine was this horrible brown color :(

Before you put together an outfit think: “would I mind getting on my knees to clean the drains with bleach? Would it be ok to get frapp roast all over the sleeves? How would I feel when I get trash water all over my cute shoes?”. That’s why I only wear my ugliest jeans and black tops. I compromise by wearing makeup.
agigante02 [OP]12 points2y ago
thank you so much for the honest answer! ill make sure to think this while getting dressed <3
givemeapples8 points2y ago
If there was a correct answer, its this one. I had to compile a whole separate "work clothes" wardrobe for clothes that will essentially get thrown away once I leave Starbucks. Numerous holes and tears, stains, bleach marks..... I look far from a fashionista, but my mind is at ease while I'm at work if my clothes get ruined one way or another. Don't wear anything you're willing to lose haha
BiochemistChef1 points2y ago
That's exactly what I did. Once I finally left the company I had to literally replace my entire wardrobe. I basically only had Starbucks clothes because it's all I did and NOTHING i owned was presentable without an apron to hide it. Gotta love $1 days at Goodwill

layering your tops if you work somewhere cold. also longer skirts/knee length are fun and easy to just put a pair of shorts under. fun hairstyles (hair just has to be pulled back, i like pigtails/space buns/fun clips) and i like having fun belts. don’t be afraid to try new things!
agigante02 [OP]4 points2y ago
omg thank you so much! ive been wanting to try a bunch of new hairstyles for up-dos since i never wear my hair up, i definitely think im gonna have to try space buns!
SpAcEcAt_9413 points2y ago
I'd recommend just go to the store (if the lobby is open) and order a drink casually as you check what the other baristas are wearing. Go similarly as them and you can't go wrong.
Side note: Target seems to have $5 neutral colored shirts (can't go wrong with a black shirt and dark denim jeans). That could be an option for at least your first day if you can't go into the store (or if any anxiety around going in).
agigante02 [OP]3 points2y ago
okay thats very smart i like that idea thank you!!
SpAcEcAt_941 points2y ago
No problem! It's actually what I did because I wasn't sure what to wear for my first day... it's also nice because you'll be able to tell how lenient (or not) a manager is on dress code based on how the baristas are dressed.
Ashleybux11 points2y ago
I remember wanting to look cute on my first day too. LOL. Just go with a T-shirt and jeans. You will be covered in syrup and frap roast anyways.
agigante02 [OP]4 points2y ago
thank you!
wifeypoopoo8 points2y ago
Don't wear anything you like to work. You will get coffee on it, bathroom cleaner, syrup, frap roast, etc. It will stain. Don't wear anything that you like

A shift had me S C R U B floor mats during my second week of training and my SM was PISSED that I wasn’t practicing the drinks or other tasks lol
damn_ass_rock_7 points2y ago
I like to pop off with skirts and leggings sometimes but that's really the only thing I can think of also the apron covers a lot so it really doesnt matter all that much
agigante02 [OP]3 points2y ago
oh shii i forgot we have to wear an apron okay good thank you!
HeartsandPins6 points2y ago
I don't even attempt to look cute, with the syrups, and sauces. Can't do much makeup because of the masks, sooo yea. 😁
agigante02 [OP]3 points2y ago
im gonna try and keep my masks fun atleast haha!
HeartsandPins3 points2y ago
Oh yea, I love my masks. They're colorful.♡
Alefur3 points2y ago
Jeans and Sweaters. Every day. Never anything else.
smoolbeean2 points2y ago
you can probably slide with some alt/grunge outfits different shades of black/ grey. play around with monotones. and a pair of docs realy add to that aesthetic barista vibe. just note that your docs will get hella ruined so invest in a pair just for work!
twiIightprincess_2 points2y ago
Thrift cheap, but stylish clothes that you won’t wear anywhere else.
Sdee12342 points2y ago
I recommend dark pants and black jeans if you are around 5'5". Every damn time i lean on the counter to reach the dang syrups my apron soaks through a puddle of liquid and gets on my jeans right where it will look like I peed myself when I take my apron off. Dark jeans are your friend
[deleted]2 points2y ago
Tbh I normally just wear a black t shirt and jeans, sometimes I’ll spice it up with a flannel but I always end up taking it off lol
FfierceLaw2 points2y ago
Black or dark wash jeans, black sturdy, supportive shoes (I love my Dansko clogs), tops in black, grey or navy. White is allowed but I don’t recommend it. I went to TJ Maxx, Ross, etc for tops in these colors with sleeve interest, like a puffy sleeves, lace or sheer insets (bare shoulders not allowed.) Prints should be small, low contrast. Neckline in front should not be lower than the top of the apron. Only Sbux dress code t shirts available on coffee gear allowed for t shirts. Do you have a copy of the 15 page Look Book? I read it carefully but in all honesty my SM is pretty lenient and I think my partners look great
dcho941 points2y ago
You don't..
reinadelastrigoi1 points2y ago
Honestly, I have like 2 pairs of jeans and two pairs of shorts and 3-4 shirts I cycle through. My thing is earrings. All within size guidelines. And occasionally makeup.
katrinka_1 points2y ago
so i got myself a visor and i do space buns and it definitely helps lol
martinifather1 points2y ago
with the amount of syrup and juices that will fly on you I would just recommend a cute mask, fun makeup, and maybe tie your hair in a cute way :) don’t soil your good clothes
Trash_Ferret1 points2y ago
I don’t lmao
scmfckwaido1 points2y ago
I just went into kohl’s clearance and bought clothes that fit. As a plus size person, I haven’t really found many cute pants that fit me and dress code. But they had so many cute blouses for a few bucks!!
Otherwise_Respect9291 points2y ago
my store is pretty lenient with dress code, but i always try to stick to it as much as i can since i’m a shift. I always go with a fun colored pant and a neutral shirt! the shoes are a little harder to work around but on days i dress up a bit more i like to wear my docs since they’re work safe !! things get dirty pretty often but nothing that can’t be cleaned up! hope you have a good time :)
stqmine1 points2y ago
hey! I felt the same when I started that I had absolutely nothing to wear that fit in the dress code! I still try to look cute even if I have to get frapp roast, bleach, and syrup on me 🤪 an all black look is really cute too btw, and pairing up with cute beanies always is the best, you can find really nice ones on amazon for cheap or teddy fresh.
olibbey1 points2y ago
They allow dresses as long as they fit the color scheme and you have black tights underneath! Target and H&M have great dresses for good prices! Good luck :)
misswallflowerr1 points2y ago
black or dark colored long sleeves/t-shirts that cover the armpits, dark or black jeans, boots, head bands. thats my go to outfit!
jupiter_bug1 points2y ago
I do so much cleaning at starbucks that its not worth wearing nice stuff. Especially if I'm asked to clean something with bleach.
esidra8081 points2y ago
I dont lol ... big t shirt jeans and crocs on the daily
_dorothyhm_1 points2y ago
I compensate by the cuts and the style of the clothes. I really like high waisted mom jeans so I wear those in the dress code colours. I basically just take my style and change the colours to dress code
GingerMic1 points2y ago
Bouncing off of a lot of people here, yeah you can make your clothes cute but do you love your clothes? There’s a lot of dirty chores we have to do around the store, and you do NOT want to be wearing a work appropriate shirt you love for it.
cilantroprince1 points2y ago
man, plain black shirts, short sleeve, long sleeve, and sweaters, go such a long way. they’re dark so they hide stains and they look good on anyone.
as other comments have said, trying to dress up isn’t going to do you much good when your outfit is mostly covered by an apron and going to get very messy from the drinks, floor, cleaning the bathroom, etc. not to mention the thick smell of syrupy coffee that could easily ruin any of your good outfits, which is why i’d recommend buying clothes to wear exclusively for work!
good luck on your first day!
navkabar1 points2y ago
easiest way is to accessorize for me!!! all my work clothes are pretty plain bc of dress code and not wanting to spend money on stuff that will probs get ruined, but ive been branching out w makeup and hair (sorry if u dont wear makeup or have long hair) and jewelry (mostly necklaces). rings and bracelets are out in dress code unfortunately but we are allowed to have a pop of color, so maybe a fun bandana or scrunchie, or fun necklaces/earrings :)
