It’s your responsibility to find coverage if you have advance knowledge of the appointment. If you have to call out sick the day of/before/etc, it is the SM’s responsibility.
That being said, my honest advice if you NEED this appointment and can’t find coverage, the day before/of call them and let them know you cannot come in for medical reasons/you are sick. They are not entitled to details. You can even say you have a fever (since you can’t work until you’ve gone 24 hrs fever free) or something if you don’t want to say you have an appointment. But like I said, past you being sick, you do not have to give them any personal/medical information.

if the schedule is already made and you’re making the appointment after, technically it’s your responsibility
