Barista Benefits? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LilacFlores
Hello, I am a new green bean barista and I am overall confused on all the benefits we receive/ have.

I know we get free food and drinks but I feel awkward ordering food and drinks because I don’t know if there is a limit, since it hasn’t been properly explained to me yet. I have only ever ordered one food item and one drink throughout my entire shifts so far because I don’t want it to be that I am surpassing my benefits given or something like that.

Thanks in advance :)

The company gives us 1 free drink and 1 free food item every day, regardless if we have a shift scheduled or not. On days you do work, you get a free drink every half hour of ordering and one free food item. The rest you pay for but you still get a 30% discount. When you get food and drink on days you don’t work, make sure you have your ID or partner card bc they might ask for it but normally they don’t. You also get 1 free pound of coffee each week.

Hi! Could you please elaborate on what you mean by free drink every half hour?

Yeah so on days you work you get free drinks as long as you don’t order more than two at a time, but this reliées every half hour so you could just wait another half hour if you wanted two free drinks, for examplw

you’re not supposed to do that tho ?

okie dokie friend.

• 1 free drink & 1 free food item in days you don’t work, as everyone else has said. this benefit ends in september supposedly but i wouldn’t be surprised if it gets extended (it’s been like this since march of 2020), so keep an eye on your weekly updates)

• on days you work, you get 1 free food item and free beverages during your shift & within 30 minutes before / after your shift. I’m sure there is an official limit (i think i was told 3 beverages per shift?) but as long as you don’t go crazy, no one will mind. technically, you’re supposed to order your drinks as a “customer”, meaning go on the other side of the counter and have a partner ring you up.

• you get one free pound of coffee each week (OR via instant coffee packs count as well, i’ve been told) this benefit rolls over on MONDAYS, so you can get a pound on a sunday and on a monday, for example, but not on a monday and a tuesday. if you miss a week, the company says it doesn’t roll over. i have partners who say though that as long as your yearly mark puts dont exceed 52 bags, the company doesn’t check when you marked them out. this mark out cannot be applied towards reserve blend coffees.

• beyond your free food/beverages, you have a 30% discount on all food/merchandise EXCEPT gift cards. during holidays they often have “partner shopping dates” where they up our discount to ~40%

• you have free spotify premium! simply google “starbucks partner spotify premium” and you’ll need your partner numbers and a spotify account to link it to. it shouldn’t be hard to find.

• take advantage of the LYRA benefits. up to 20 free sessions over a period of 6? months i think. I personally havent used it because i haven’t had the time to figure it out, but your SM can help you!

• medical/dental/vision insurance and ASU benefits are applicable once you’re eligible (18+, work 520 hours in a six month span jan-july or june-december— tho the hours depend on where you’re at, i believe the 520 is the US standard)

• there’s also 401k and beanstock benefits but i can’t remember the requirements rn. I have personally set both up and they’re great to look into. your SM can help you learn the ropes with these too.

This is probably your best answer to all of the above and dont forget to utilize Perks at Work you can also find on the Partner Hub, it will give you discounts outside of Starbucks company. Including electronics, concerts, games, traveling or even discounts on shoe brands, clothes and etc.

You get a one free food and drink item everyday on days you don’t work. This ends in September. On days you do work you get a free drink and food item 30 mins before your shift & 30 mins after your shift. As well as if you have a break you get it then. I only really use my markouts for my breaks and for after I get off, but if you decide to show up a bit earlier and have a quick bite to eat that’s ok! Also depends whether you’re working at a corporate store or a retail store
