Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

Full History - 2021 - 05 - 10 - ID#n90mnf

Why don’t we join McDonalds in a strike on May 19th.... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by OrganizationTop2416
Starbucks as a company has and is quickly moving to fast food. The amount of labor given is not even close to the amount that is needed. We are being exploited. Our hard work and efforts are being taken advantage of. Stand and fight for your fellow baristas and shifts who bust their ass, sacrifice their time, and deteriorate their mental/physical/emotional health for the siren.

If I wouldn't get fired for being the only one at my store or even in my district to do it. :/
cxbar 63 points 2y ago
same. the sentiment is nice but this feeling is not echoed in anybody but a few choice baristas in my store... SSVs or higher are not gonna risk their relative job security, at least in my district. still, it’s nice to dream...
julcarls 39 points 2y ago
As an SSV, I would stand beside you and the other baristas, as would my ASM. I can't say the same for the other SSVs unfortunately. I hate that it's like "oh I make $2-3/hour more so f your plight." Nah, we are just as miserable but some are just drowning in the koolaid.
catbatparty 29 points 2y ago
My manager would super gaslight me, "what do you mean? Starbucks is amazing and you get stocks!"
julcarls 11 points 2y ago
Yeah the gaslighting is incredible, but I also know my SM is being gaslit too. I feel bad for them in a way. It's like a cult.
JeanLucPicardsAss 10 points 2y ago
If my team wanted to do this I would 100% back them up. It's something I want to do anyway, but you can't be the only one who doesn't show up when you're the SSV
amalia13lightning 2 points 2y ago
I would back them up too. Fuck the $2-3 dollars, we still dont make enough for what we do and im big mad
Digitalwitness23 53 points 2y ago
That last sentence is really no joke. I felt so hopeless and was so depressed when I worked at Starbucks. My mental health improved dramatically after I left.

i got fired and my life got better? it was a wild time

edit: fired for someone else's mistake 🤷🏼‍♂️
LatterRooster 47 points 2y ago
Yup, I was told I had to be available more because “this is a business”! I asked for a pt job with a certain amount of hours. Not a sometimes 25/30 hours a week working non-stop and being told I have to wait to go to the bathroom.
thehairqueen 30 points 2y ago
That’s horrible! As a shift supervisor I never stop people from using the washroom, for all I know they need a mental break from the craziness. No matter what happens on the floor while they are gone it’s only coffee and the partners are far more important 💕 I’m sorry you have to go threw that
LatterRooster 6 points 2y ago
I told my store manager today about it happening because it made me very uncomfortable and it was not a good feeling. The shift is new that did it and I hope they realize it’s not cool

Incoming the shill accounts
j4mj4rs 27 points 2y ago
As someone who just quit due to being extremely over-worked and gas-lit for 9 months - please do it.
flavioTOBR 12 points 2y ago
If I was still employed I’d do that in heartbeat. Even if I wasn’t staying at the company afterwards, at least we could change something for future employees.

I’m suddenly regretting putting in my two weeks, two weeks ago. I’d love to give them a piece of my mind but my last day is the 14th✋🏼😔
StarbucksStarbitch 4 points 2y ago
I’m an ASM that has been jerked from store to store since I started. This company is NOT what I was promised

Because unlike mcdonoalds at least starbucks (unless something has changed) gives you health benifits with a minimum of 20 hours a week
navkabar 64 points 2y ago
benefits arent an excuse to pay us like shit

If you don’t like it…quit.

You dont want to stand in solidarity?
venturealoha 1 points 2y ago
No, Starbucks does a pretty good job taking care of partners.
