Exactly. SM didn't pay for the donuts. We all pitched in to pay and help make working mother's day a little better. Instead we got "shut up and do your job" attitude in response.
Edit: I personally wouldn't of written something that snarky, but it was obviously in jest. Everyone was in a good mood, and we worked our butts off. It's not like we just mope around on Sundays and are rude..
julcarls64 points2y ago
As the Sunday opening SSV.... oof 🙃
baristaabitchh4 points2y ago
Same 😅
stagstar51 points2y ago
Sundays truly are the worst. I didn’t realize how universal it was that every Sunday is always where green beans get stuck (and also why we had such a high turnover for newbies)
bingethinker16 [OP]27 points2y ago
Yea it really is universal. Poor green beans!
Our greenies really are doing an outstanding job. It's not their fault if they have questions. We just don't always have the staff available on Sundays to help them so they feel stressed out. Me and the other senior baristas are constantly telling them how great they're doing because they are.
zothescorpio32 points2y ago
This job is a fucking joke lol
hellopie76 points2y ago
*PLOT TWIST* most jobs that scale off of min wage are.
sugarraide2 points2y ago
we all deserve to be paid more, especially since we’re always understaffed. if you’re doing the work of two ppl, you should get paid the labor of two ppl...
bryceofswadia18 points2y ago
We were on a 3 man from 6-close (we close at 10 on Sundays) with no pre close on a fucking holiday. So tired of them understaffing us, especially when our store has around 40 employees. There is no excuse.
bingethinker16 [OP]9 points2y ago
Oof.. I'm sorry. Closers really are the silent knights of the store. As an ex-closer/now opener I appreciate all you guys do while sometimes soloing the floor.
captmarksparrow15 points2y ago
Yall get your SM on weekends? Must be nice.

captmarksparrow2 points2y ago
Fair enough. But at this point, any extra person on the floor would be great regardless lol.
Potential-Sir56412 points2y ago
sundays are the best from 4 am to 8 am tho lol
bingethinker16 [OP]3 points2y ago
haha truuueee
Fukitol_Bourbon8 points2y ago
I close every god-d\*mn sunday and I have never related to something more
residentsweetheart7 points2y ago
All of my experienced partners took Sundays out of their availability before I got to my store so I work every Sunday 🥲
Can’t say I blame them tho, Sundays are “understaffed” because all of our business is within like 10am to 1pm, so the scheduling system is like, “Oh? Only this many transactions for the entire day? Okay, four people is fine.” And our DMs don’t allow for much wiggle room when it comes to scheduling to the system’s calculations.
Edit for clarification: “Can’t say I blame them” was in reference to my partners taking Sundays out of their respective availabilities. Not referring to aforementioned SM who got butt hurt over some doughnuts.
Edit 2: I'm an SM, thought I was in another subreddit with flair! :o
bingethinker16 [OP]3 points2y ago
Oh I can blame them lol. I've talked with our SM multiple times that the numbers aren't reflecting our staffing needs. Told them all we would need is one strong partner on the floor in place of a new hire and we'd be good.
I hardly ever complain because I understand that much of what happens is out of the SM/SSV's control (call outs, COVID leaves, green beans needing help, difficult customers).
However, when I come to you with an issue *and* a reasonable solution and you still tell me to kick rocks... yeah I'm going to lose respect for you.
residentsweetheart5 points2y ago
Made an edit for clarification :)
I’m sorry your SM is a turd. Like you said, some things they can’t prevent, but a lot of call outs generally has something to do with the culture of the store. I’m speaking from experience. The stores I worked at with multiple call outs had poor leadership & nobody was happy... on the other hand, next-to-no call outs is due to an understanding and respectuful work environment.
I try to lead with empathy and understand that things happen. It’s a difficult line to walk tho, as some people will take advantage of that.
bingethinker16 [OP]3 points2y ago
Oh I totally agree. I definitely feel more motivated to work for our shifts who are empathetic and care about my input. Luckily we have a lot of partners/SSVs that truly make the job worth the stress. We definitely have a team mentality. So a little "work sucks" joke really wasn't worth the meltdown our SM had. They're very afraid of any sort of insubordination.
Also I hope you know I didn't take any offense to your original comment. You're definitely not wrong regarding how the system views staffing on weekends. Sbux has an issue overall with how they view staffing the floor.
edit: grammar
residentsweetheart2 points2y ago
I didn't take offense! I just wanted you to know that I was replying in support so I edited the comment.
I view most of the "work sucks" stuff as general "work sucks" stuff. Nobody actually likes to work. I would imagine if everyone had the choice, they would be at the beach, or in my case, in the mountains everyday. Instead, I'm landlocked and on the plains of KS haha.
I feel for you tho! Hopefully your store figures their stuff out and everyone can get along appropriately haha.
sten455 points2y ago
And all the best customers come out on Sunday too
cringeqween133 points2y ago
My SM is requiring everyone work at least one Sunday a month because us regularly scheduled Sunday partners are dyin out here.
hopelovepeace333 points2y ago
I opened at my new store this Sunday (Mother’s Day) and the shift there thought we weren’t going to be busy because some partners had gone out of town so apparently she thought that meant we weren’t going to be that busy 😂 she thought wrong and by the end of the day I was absolutely mentally and physically drained because I was on CS and had zero fucking clue where things were and all I wanted to do was cry the entire shift.
swansin2 points2y ago
Continue to complain 💗
dicksoutforpoppunk2 points2y ago
Please next Sunday have somebody bring in another box of donuts that says "Somebody's got a case of the *Sundays*"
nickintheback082 points2y ago
SM’s gotta have a little awareness
LavalampClock1 points2y ago
gods, i love the whole, "yOu'Re MaKInG mOnEy, DoN't CoMpLaIn" argument
bingethinker16 [OP]1 points2y ago
Right?! Also I think there's a difference between bringing up concerns and complaining.
