Tbh this might only apply to my area but just thought I’d reach out. I was told that when the city’s minimum wage goes up, our wage should go up as well regardless of if we’re at or above minimum.
I’m in the Portland OR metro area. I started in June 2019, making 12.52. The minimum at that time was $12. Per Oregon law, the minimum wage goes up July 1st every year, but when it went up to 12.50 a week after I started, mine didn’t move. I got the yearly raise in January 2020 and was making $13.27. The city minimum wage didn’t move, until July 1, 2020 when it went up to $13.25, and again, mine didn’t move so then I was basically making minimum again after being with the company for a year. With the December 10% raise, I now make $14.60. (I was told by someone else that we’d still get the .50 raise on Jan. 1 but am not surprised that this seemed to be false). So anyway, I guess I’m just wondering should I expect my wage to go up when the city increases minimum wage to $14 in July? Have I been shorted raises? Or maybe not because I haven’t been with the company that long? I got this info from a shift who said that last summer her wage did go up with the minimum at an equal rate (.75). Again this might only be Portland or other big city specific, but any insight would be great!!
Oh, also along these lines, I was told if I transferred out of state (which might happen) my raises would still apply, but to the local starting wage. Can anyone attest to this?
Thanks in advance partners!!
