Weight of urn w/ a full batch?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by umbellate
I'm having minor surgery soon, so I need to know how much a full batch in an urn weighs to figure out if I can lift it post-surgery! I believe we have a Bunn Dual SH Soft Heat Model (see pic!). I don't need an exact number - just approximate weight pound-wise... Thanks!!
Roughly 12 pounds. The BRM says a full batch produces 184 fl oz which is about 5.4 liters.
Since coffee is 98% water, we can assume it has the same density of water which is generally 1g/ml
That gives 5400 grams of coffee which equals 11.9 pounds ≈ 12 pounds

I’d say closer to 15-20 pounds.. don’t forget the weight of the empty urn!

D’oh! Totally forgot about the big chunk of metal.

Can you bring like a bathroom scale to work to check? (Step on, write your weight, then step on with the full urn and subtract the difference)?
(If no one happens to know)

I would guess probably about 10-12 pounds.
Here’s how I got there. Based on the one time I made a traveler, it used up about 3/4ths of the batch of coffee. I know that a traveler is 96 oz. Therefore an urn should be able to hold about a gallon (128 oz) of coffee. A gallon of water weighs 8 lbs and I can’t imagine the urn weighs more than 2-4 lbs.
I don’t know for sure, but that would be my best guess.
