Returning barista here from 9 years ago. it took me a full month or so before they put me on bar again. like the people above me said, whenever you get some downtime, ask to practice on bar! they’ll most likely let you 😌

hi! im on my 4th week out of training and ive been put on bar quite a lot for a green bean! we are severely understaffed as well, and ive been doing pretty well on bar for a new person! ive only been on bar a lot bc i work mainly mids and my shift leader wants to make me a well rounded partner. good at cs, dto, and bar. try to ask your shift to go on bar whenever its slow. honestly beg if u have to! theyll probably let you bc they will appreciate that you want the practice and that u have the desire to get better at your job. also dont be afraid to ask questions! if you mess up, its okay just remake and learn from your mistake. its just a drink, not a filet mignon. :)

I’m about 7 months in and for the first maybe month or so I was generally only on dto/dtr, front and CS. Once I got comfortable with the store I started asking for a little bar time here and there and they started putting me on bar when we were slow. It might take a while but I think it’ll help to ask your shifts for some time to practice when it’s slow

When I began (I have been working for 4 months now), I started on register and ovens/cs especially during rushes. Even now, if there are two baristas who are faster than me (during a rush) they might put me on cs. To be honest, it really depends on the busyness of the store/hour and the shift on the floor. I find that some shifts like to be on bar and some will just do cs and take polls in the back.

I hope you get some time on the bar this week, I’m sure if you have a slow hour they will put you there.

Also, if there is someone who is newer than you, more than likely they will be put on register over you.

I started on drive through order right away and that was my comfort zone for a while! I got some bar 2 time when it was slow and I’d ask the shifts, especially if I was on a closing shift. My store is really great at giving everyone time to practice skills in most positions

They haven’t even put me on orders yet lmao

You’ll get there! I believe in you!

So I’ve been working at Sbux for 4 months now, and I am put on bar almost every shift even when I was in my first month. My shifts (because I opened and we have a solid slow period until 7 when peak hits) always asked me where I felt I needed practice (usually bar). So I think it depends on your shifts and when you work.

It might depend on your store. I've been a partner since the end of January and didn't get placed on bar consistently until the end of April. I wouldn't worry too much, though! Speak to your shifts, and see if they are willing to put you on bar for practice! I'm sure they'd be happy to do so. :)

I was on a short staffed mid shift at first. Me and another girl were hired on the same day so we only had 2 people who knew what they were doing on our shift. They kept me on DT and her on CS for over a month before they even got a chance to try and train us on bar, and that took a morning worker staying late to do so.
