Hi, just a quick hazmat question: I was just wondering if we have a safety protocol for the nitro and what that protocol is?
I’m not really sure how the nitrogen is stored at work…or how to handle it safely while changing the kegs. Or…if we have a way to monitor the oxygen levels in the store to make sure that they’re at a healthy level?
Any input would be awesome!

As long as you don’t leave the nitro line on the keg by itself, you’re fine. So when changing it, take the gas line off the old keg first, then the liquid. Then when you’re putting them on the new keg, put the liquid line on first, then the gas.

I’m guessing the nitro line leads to a large store of pressurized nitrogen, somewhere. Similar to a propane tank. My main question is: how do we monitor it for leaks into the breathable air in the store?
Nitrogen is tasteless, colorless and odorless and when it leaks it replaces the oxygen in the store and people can get sick if this happens due to hypoxia. In other industrial settings where there are larger nitrogen supplies there typically is a monitor similar to a carbon monoxide detector. Do we have one of these?
I’m a FEMA ICS certified person (we had to take it for SAR, search and rescue training) so when it comes to hazmat or pressurized gasses I have to always be cautious and know exactly how to handle this stuff because of that training. That’s why I’m a bit of a nervous nelly.

There was definitely an online training about this but honestly I dont remember any of it

The nitro machine just uses nitrogen from the air so there is nothing to worry about.

your supervisors are trained on this and know where the gauge is.

The nitrogen generator removes nitrogen from compressed oxygen.

Wow! I would love to know how one extracts Nitrogen from a generator of compressed Oxygen.
