Starbucks COVID+ Response (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Mmmhmmbread
Hey, newer partner here. Recently my store had a COVID positive during a new manager placement. We were quarantined for 5 days and we resumed drive thru only. However, I have a concern. My new manager is telling me to lie to our regular customers (who are basically our neighbors, small town) about why we aren’t letting them inside. She said I have to say, “we are expanding our staff, until then we can’t open Cafe” which isn’t true. So what’s gonna happen when our regulars confront us when they see no new people? Our new manager also is a transplant, we all know each other here and she doesn’t understand that this lie will personally affect us outside of work. Our community is mostly elderly or at risk. Any advice?

In my experience, low staffing is typically why the cafe isn’t open and we only do DT only.

When somebody tests positive for COVID-19, the store shuts down and they do heavy deep cleaning and sanitizing. The partners and all the food and beverage are fresh and not sick.

All of the food and everything that’s contaminated gets thrown out and we restock fresh and clean!

So, the reason why your drive-through only right now is not because your store is contagious/hazardous…it’s because some of your partners may be in quarantine so nobody is serving food while sick—so there’s not enough people to build a play to accommodate DT and cafe.

I admire your integrity about the issue, though, and wanting to be honest. That’s a really good quality to have. You shouldn’t have to feel icky about lying because you’re not really lying. Some of your partners are down so half the operating play gets downsized to accommodate!

So you’re not lying to anyone. As long as you’re doing your Covid coach and everybody is being honest about reporting their symptoms and getting tested to see if they’re able to work you should be OK. :)
