Am I allowed to Veil (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by goddess_bones
So I practice an ATR (African Traditional Religion) and sometimes I will need to cover my hair with a scarf(known as veiling). Am I allowed to wear that to work or would I need to provide proof that this is my practice?

Update: I veiled today. It was great.

Starbucks has no right and desire to discriminate against your beliefs and practices. But you should communicate with your manager about the practice. Explain it is a religious and cultural belief and the should not only be fine with it but encourage it. If they don’t call partner resources.

I mean I know hats are allowed and so there shouldn’t be an issue, but I’ve seen hijabi baristas. I think they’ll be more than welcoming!

they shouldn’t ask! if you talk to your store manager they 1. shouldn’t ask at all 2. maybe they’ll make a comment on like the color of the scarf so it fits uniform guidelines? but it shouldn’t be a problem!

I’m pagan and I’ve veiled while working multiple times. No one has said anything.

In my state we all have to wear something on our heads so there’s no reason your head covering is a problem but you better anchor it well!

you absolutely can! I wear a headscarf at work like half the time

I cover my hair often for the same reason and my SM/DM both have never asked why I wear it.
