Manger walked out - venti rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by barista19471057
So, my highschool graduation was Sunday, May 9th. I asked off Saturday until Tuesday so I could have some extra time for me. My manger called my phone 7 times (three times DURING graduation, which is fucking stupid because I'm a morning shift and my graduation was at 5 pm) on Sunday and 11 times on Monday. I was not picking up for obvious reasons.

I get to work yesterday morning to my shift pulling me to the side and told me that my manager and a co worker walked out with no explanation. Due to other scheduling conflicts, we have four people besides myself (INCLUDING shifts) to work mornings. We normally run 8/9 because we are a very high volume store.

To add on to that, two of the people who CAN work are fucking useless. All they do is talk to each other constantly. I'm on bar all the time, which is great! I love bar! But they always do drive thru together. We had a line around the store all day (even though they had all the drinks for at least 3 orders CONSTANTLY) because they couldn't be bothered to actually talk to customers or hand drinks out.

We're drowning and TO TOP IT ALL OFF
We're opening up indoor seating in less then two weeks. TWO. FUCKING. WEEKS.
Anyways. I really do love my job but I don't know how much more of this I can take

First off congrats on graduating! Second, run bruh. Just run. They’re are other jobs out there and it’s against corporate policy for Starbucks to give references

I really need the money. I'm going to uni in the fall and this is the best pay in the area

I grew up in rural America and I can relate so much. Sadly I don’t know what to say other than I’m sorry and hang in there. If you can get through that bullshit, you’re basically invincible

Yeah I was hired in late November so I worked through the Christmas rush (worked both eve and day). I survived that shit, I can survive this.

Can you elaborate on that policy? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it in my eight years of hell here

They’re afraid of being sued, so if someone asks for a reference, they’re only allowed a piece of paper detailing your hire and separation dates.

That's a lot of employers now a days. They can only verify what you put on your background check for employment dates and sometimes job title if requested.

There's better stores. If you love the job find a store you love (hopefully not too inconvenient).
