SSV selling MLM product to employees and customers while at work - is this allowed?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by buggedblonde
Hey friends! I have a SSV who “is her own boss” but pedals her products to baristas and customers while she is on shift. I feel like this is a big problem, as employees may feel obligated to buy from her because she is our supervisor. Also selling to customers seems like it could open Starbucks up to some legal issues if an employee is pedaling products that “help them lose weight”.
I am just looking for something explicit in the handbook or somewhere that says “you can’t pedal your fake health products at work”.
Thanks in advance!

NO. throw that shit away and if they continue go above them.
Then tell them “you don’t need to work at Starbucks, hun! You’re your own girl boss and make six figures from your phone! Retire that husband and be the CEO of your own company!”
But for real, no soliciting or using Starbucks as a place to peddle personal shit is allowed. I can look though partner hub tomorrow if you can’t find anything by then and I’ll get you the info

I’ll look through the hub too, but if you do find anything, please share! I really just want to confront her with it, give her a chance to adjust, and if not then go to our DM.

Also I find it toxic for someone to be trying to get employees to use fake weight loss products.

Just the other day she was telling a new partner about how certain essential oils can help with early onset Alzheimer’s…. So yeah. Damaging. Toxic.

I definitely remember something in the handbook about no soliciting on the job. I would go to your DM about it.

Absolutely not, that’s terrible. I would ask her how much she makes if she signs someone up, and straight up tell her she needs to stop doing this at work, especially to customers. I know it may not feel like your place but I feel like sometimes it’s good to try to resolve a situation at your level before you bring it up. But if you don’t feel comfortable doing that absolutely say something to your manager, if that doesn’t work, I would call the corporate ethics line and file an actual report. In my experience, a DM will always have the SM’s back so no point trying to go straight to them
