Attacked at work today (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by wtchtrsh
So there was a woman sitting at our patio today. I heard a little bang on the window which caused my attention to divert outside. I was the shift (143****) on duty and saw a woman sitting outside, her palms to her face like she was crying. I told the barista I was going to go out to check on her/ see if she needed help. I walked out side and noticed the other chair at her table was knocked over and had her belongings in it. I was about six feet away from her and was asking her if she was alright. Before I could get the words out she screamed “leave me alone” and simultaneously flipped the table toward me. I tried to back up but the table crushed my big toe. I was wearing leather boots and my toe nail is busted up and hurts pretty bad even hours later. Anyway immediately got in the store and locked the door, called 911 and she began slamming the chair into the table a few time before taking off.

Should I seek medical attention? Anyone have a similar experience like this at Starbucks or advice?

EDIT: I filled out an incessant report right away. Things like this happen at my store with increasing frequency. My manager has told me to let her know what support I need so I’m wonder what support others might have requested in similar situations.

make sure you file an incident report. an assault has to be called in. once it’s documented, if you go to get medical help it should be covered by workers compensation

edit: know this from having seen the incident report process just last week

Police report. Did any partners get her photo? Do you have video cameras on the scene (if not, why not?) It's called Assault and Battery. This person will hurt more people, they need to be arrested

I called the police. There’s a report. It was on our patio and we do not have cameras out there. The officer told me if they caught them they would cite and release them. I am wondering what support people request from Starbucks management in these situations.

I wonder too. This is horrible what happened to you, you were doing your job, being a good person. I hope you are ok!
