Anyone else’s store ignore baristas on their day off?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throwaway3456678
I came in on my day off to get a coffee and snack since I was in the area. Everyone just stared at me and kept telling me to ring myself out. Like I’m not allowed to do that for one, and two, it’s my day off and I’m not going behind the counter.

They get MAJOR attitude when they have to take an order for us and will half-ass our drink (if they don’t just walk away and ignore us, that is). I feel like I’m the only barista who doesn’t mind when someone comes in on their day off to get coffee

Not at all! When I go into my store on my day off everyone says hi and is super nice and happy to see me! Granted I usually go in when I know my friends are working but still, if your coworkers are treating you like that maybe you should consider transferring. Sounds like a super toxic culture at your store
drinkliquidclocks 73 points 2y ago
Umm your co workers are passive aggressive dicks. That's not normal. Youre a customer just like everyone else, they need to do their job. That's so inappropriate wtf
Sarahthelizard 32 points 2y ago
I practically cheer my coworkers when they come in, they're automatically great customers.
LindaFromAccounting_ 13 points 2y ago
I treat other partners better just off the fact that they work at the same company and we're meant to be a team
EternalYorkieMom 44 points 2y ago
On breaks I get the whole “Can you ring yourself up?” Thing. Which... yeah... best use of that break.
bonc_loser 13 points 2y ago
Any time I ring myself up or they ask me to make my own drink I take extra time for my breaks lol
Psychological-Egg713 26 points 2y ago
i’ll ring myself up and make my drink/warm my food but my break isn’t gonna start til the moment i sit down lmao
EternalYorkieMom 7 points 2y ago
I’m using that.
medikellysane 20 points 2y ago
Sounds like they don’t like you
throwaway3456678 [OP] 15 points 2y ago
It isn’t just me, they do it to everyone. We all get along great but literally nobody wants to ring partners up i their day off bc they work there (partners from 9ther stores is different obviously)
TemplarSensei7 16 points 2y ago
My co-workers would only say that as a joke.

But then again, they never liked my old salted caramel white mocha.
PhaseSi 7 points 2y ago
Drop the recipe 🔫
TemplarSensei7 2 points 2y ago
You can make it out of season. Just the mocha/w. Mocha and toffee nut, with the drizzle on top.
eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeee 2 points 2y ago
Sounds like the SCM, but sub the mocha for white mocha. Which sounds pretty good.
PhaseSi 2 points 2y ago
I’ll have to try it! I’ve managed to never make myself a SCM. You ever tried brown sugar cold foam? It’s bussin
eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeee 2 points 2y ago
Fucking love brown sugar, though I haven’t tried that yet. Next shift I definitely will though!
bingethinker16 2 points 2y ago
It's way better.
Caramel_Muchacho 9 points 2y ago
That’s a toxic work environment for ya.
happypoptart0 8 points 2y ago
Whatttttt! How rude!! Literally if someone is in the dt or even cafe a couple of us will always say something!!! We still kind of do the block system and i’ve noticed on the other they dont really do that at all and i’m like ?????
[deleted] 4 points 2y ago
Yeah that’s awful. Totally not my stores culture. On off days and someone comes in we all basically attack them with greetings and smiles. We all get along great and are excited to see each other...LITERALLY the other day at DT I came through and they all popped on the headset to say hi to the point I couldn’t even get my drink order out cause they were all taking turns saying hi lol....but even if it’s not that extent it’s just regular decency. You’re a customer when you’re not clocked in. They should ABSOLUTELY ring you up.

On my break I’ll ring myself up by choice cause it’s faster than waiting on line 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t mind.
But for sure on your off days and they treat you like that you should contact partner resources and speak to them.

your store doesn't sound like a team which sucks. I used to be at a store like that and my coworker caught an attitude because I ordered a caramel Frappuccino and they didn't like making fraps. I literally had to tell her to DO HER JOB. I hate partners like that 😭
throwaway3456678 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I don’t drink the fraps but my brother does, so I always get him his drink when I go or after work. My coworker complained so loud the entire time one day about how I KNOW she hates making fraps and still ordered one. Like miss girl I hate making them too but that’s literally what we signed up for 😭
LaurdAlmighty 3 points 2y ago
Nah at my store if you aren't working you get rung out but sometimes I'll ask can I make my own stuff because their busy. If you come when we're slammed and you know it's peak you're gonna wait
RedKamo 3 points 2y ago
That sounds awful, I’m sorry. I can’t imagine that kind of atmosphere with my coworkers.
SnooDonuts3398 2 points 2y ago
My store does it all the time. I might ring you out, but you’re making your own drink, policy be damned 🤷🏻‍♂️
throwaway3456678 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I work far too much to be making my drinks on my day off. It’s a day off for a reason. Chances are I’m running errands and don’t want to ruin my good clothes with coffee if I don’t have to just because a coworker won’t make my drink since I work there
SnooDonuts3398 1 points 2y ago
Well, good thing you don’t work at my store? Not making your own drink is pretty much the rudest thing a partner can do in our opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️
throwaway3456678 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
if im on the clock or a break then i will, but if my name isn’t on that dcr i won’t 🤷‍♀️ i would never ask a partner to make their drink on their day off
FfierceLaw 2 points 2y ago
I have gone to my store on a day off once and I won't do it again. There's a different one close by
eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeee 2 points 2y ago
I only had one co-worker like that, she was a bitch. Everyone at my current store love seeing baristas on their day off, I’ll even offer to get them a free drink (shhh don’t tell my manager)
throwaway3456678 [OP] 3 points 2y ago
I love seeing baristas on their day off too!! I love talking to them and hearing about their day. Everyone else will greet them and talk to them but just ignore them when they want to order
impasse602 1 points 2y ago
I dont mind it i like seeing my coworkers on their day off in normal clothes
throwaway3456678 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
yeah me too!!
dazedandconfusedhere 1 points 2y ago
No my store is so nice on our days off, one of the shifts writes nice notes with hearts on my food bag if he’s on warming 😂 I like to chat with them too sometimes, because I don’t usually work with pm people (when it’s slow at least)
Sarahthelizard 1 points 2y ago
>Everyone just stared at me and kept telling me to ring myself out. Like I’m not allowed to do that for one, and two, it’s my day off and I’m not going behind the counter.

Mention that to your SM, I understand if you're on the clock going on a ten and busy or something, but jeez.
