If you pay with the Starbucks app, it'll ask you if you want to tip. You can also link you card directly to the app and paying with the app will give you a digital receipt.

Still, the person behind you can pay. Use your money for good, feed someone whose hungry, charity, etc. also when that happens in the drive thru it slows down the line..

Maybe I'm stupid but I still don't understand. What does the terminal not accepting tips have to do with paying the stranger behind you in line?

When I first started drinking coffee in my college years, I hadn’t ever heard of a “pay it forward chain”. I went through the drive-through, went to pay, and the barista informed me that the person in front of me paid for my drink. I smiled and said, “Thank you!” and drove away, blissfully unaware. Someone informed me later about what was going on and I was mortified and didn’t show my face at that location for a good long while.
