Ask Starbucks Baristas: What are some lesser known policies that could help a green bean?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I’ll go first, double cupping teas and americanos isn’t policy and a myth, confirmed by DM.

You are allowed to refuse to do something that makes you uncomfortable. That includes refusing to use a certain cleaning chemical, refusing to serve a customer who makes you uncomfortable for any reason, etc.
You are NOT allowed to work off the clock, or while on a break. If a shift or manager tries to make you work while clocked out or while on a 10/30, DONT ❤️. You can also leave the store on any of your breaks (as long as you’re back by the time it’s over).
If you’re sick or have an emergency, it is NOT your responsibility to find coverage for a shift. If you feel well enough to try, that’s obviously appreciated, but it’s your SMs job. It IS your responsibility to find coverage for any shifts you know you can’t make it to ahead of time, and you can be written up for not finding coverage.
Not sure if these count as “lesser known”, but I think they’re important

To add, if you only have 2 partners in the store you CANNOT leave the store on your breaks, AND your lunch break will be paid (since you can't leave the store). Two employees must be in the store at all times.

Really? You’re not supposed to find coverage... I had a a COVID scare in my last store (prior to quitting and being rehired) and they said I had to find my own coverage with COVID symptoms.

Nope! It actually says this on the frame thing where the schedule is posted

anything added to water, other than ice, is a custom iced tea. that includes fruit, syrup, matcha, etc. the button for it is on the “tea” tab.
the reason nitro cold brews can’t be served in a venti/trenta is for quality assurance (to make sure it has that “cascade” effect from the nitrogen), not because of high caffeine content.
OneRoseDark8 points2y ago
And because of volumetric / cost-to-profit ratios. The price of a venti nitro would be too high to be "reasonable", and supply would quickly lose out to demand due to how long the brew takes.

I heard you also aren’t supposed to squeeze freshly brewed tea bags into the teas we make because it messes with the flavor?
xiew4 points2y ago
Um I’ve been doing this for almost 8 years. Uh oh.

my store is having problems now with breaks, once you step off the floor that’s when your break starts. we now have to carry timers on us along with the SM, if you don’t come back on the right time you’ll get written up, but my problem with it is my SM starts the time before we even step off the floor
