scared green bean (self.starbucksbaristas)

i just got a job as a barista at the starbucks near me. i’ve done my week of training and about 4 regular shifts.
i am TERRIFIED. my store is extremely high volume and we have little to no staff- like we are barely in a block schedule because we simply have no one.
so far i’ve watched 3 coworkers walk out, another girl burst into tears and scream about how she hates her job (while she was on the floor), and had another coworker tell me that starbucks is the main source of her panic attacks.
i myself have had to stop and collect myself multiple times during my shifts because it is genuinely such an overwhelming experience and the customers are SO mean.
i struggle with my mental health and i’m really trying to get better and this was so discouraging. we are under a new SM who everyone literally hates and the new SM is so rude to all of the baristas so honestly i understand the hatred.
plus, i’ve already been asked to pick up shifts on both my days off because again- we have no partners.
they keep telling me most people don’t keep showing up at their store for as long as i have and i’m so scared.
before i get too deep in this- is this worth it?? like genuinely?? because i would rather work somewhere else that doesn’t make me wanna rip my hair out than worsen my mental health.

in your store… definitely not worth it tbh. i personally love my store but i’m probably just extremely lucky compared to other peoples stories. if i was you i would transfer, a better store could definitely be worth the distance. the only reason i don’t say to quit is because i genuinely love the company and ik if you find the right store and people to work with you will have a great time there. and if you do decide to quit i highly recommend completing your final 2 weeks so some day in the future you can be rehired.

i feel like working at starbucks you either love it or hate it, no in between. and if it’s that bad when you’ve just started i promise it’s only gonna get worse.

It is not worth it. Get out.

Unless you are fully taking advantage of all the benefits offered by Sbux, (school, 401K, insurance etc.) it is not worth it for what you are asked to do. The money and the stress does not compute.

Love yourself and transfer. Not every location is going to be like that and the rate of pay is NEVER going to be worth that amount of stress and negativity in your life. Otherwise put in a 2 week notice so you could be rehired down the line if you decided to return, like another commenter said! You got this.

This literally sounds like my store. I would definitely suggest asking for a transfer. And if you can't do it get out. It's not worth all the stress. Plus it probably does even pay well enough. I'm sorry it's been so difficult.

Hi! Fellow green bean here! I would ask for a transfer if i were you. Yes just starting at Starbucks is stressful but it shouldn't be that stressful. If you have the capacity to request a transfer, i would. Or just simply quit. Start applying to other stores if you can! I know my store is hiring if you're in the Baltimore area!

I’m all for transfer! but unfortunately she has to be at her store for at least 6 months unless her SM will approve it early but from the looks of it her SM is a dick

Oh right i always forget about that little clause!

Side note, your username triggers my fight or flight response. 😂
