daintypups 115 points 2y ago
Also, I am Tyler
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 240 points 2y ago
Haha funny thing is im that tyler and i have a torn rotator cuff and cant get any days off to heal.. so thats why im labeled broken im a 5 year partner and using one hand is AWFUL -,-
HDizzlefoShizzleBiz 163 points 2y ago
Tyler - you need to submit a claim for a medical leave of absence.
Call Sedgwick.
penguinophile 44 points 2y ago
I broke my wrist 3 weeks ago and it never really got to properly heal cuz the brace kept getting in the way and making working difficult, so I stopped wearing it. Last night I was walking to the back and smacked the shit out of said wrist in a counter right where the break is.
We’re also far to short handed for me to even get the easy positions, because those are for the green beans. We’ve had 3 store managers in 2 months, and our current SM is also another store’s SM. Send help pls.
OneRoseDark 91 points 2y ago
You are more important than your job. Prioritize yourself and stand up for yourself firmly. "I have a broken wrist and I can't do that." Don't stop wearing your brace and sacrifice your future mobility for the short-term ability to make someone else rich.
sheep_heavenly 61 points 2y ago
>We’re also far to short handed for me to even get the easy positions, because those are for the green beans.

Who cares. Starbucks won't pay for your physical therapy when your wrist heals poorly.

I know it sucks, I have to have medical boundaries at work too, but prioritize yourself mate. If customers complain, tell them your wrist is broken, THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE :)))). Get a medical accommodation, your doctor fills out a form for what you can't do at your store HAS to abide by it. Green beans can learn to do things other than POS. Hell, they should. You can still coach and be a resource for them.

This job will let you go without blinking. They did it to entire stores of partners last year, no warning for them. Your wrist is worth far, far more than the profits Starbucks reaps from your labor. I can't stress that enough.
LatterRooster 22 points 2y ago
Wearing or using ANY type of medical equipment at Starbucks is impossible! They are not accommodating for disabled partners
theo_shedrick 5 points 2y ago
I’ve been working at my store for less that three months and I’be made my way through all the positions. Sometimes new people have to learn their shit fast. Your green beans can learn the harder positions if it means that you can take a break and let your wrist heal!
yyz_barista 20 points 2y ago
Aww - hope you get some time to heal soon. I guess R1 for you then?
smilygirrl12 9 points 2y ago
I agree you need a medical leave of absence dude! I broke my ankle just about 2 weeks ago. Had to have surgery and everything. I'm on a medical leave of absence for at least the next month and a half, more than likely longer though. Getting paid 2/3 my normal paycheck from Sedgwick, but also filed for disability from the state. You're body needs to heal!
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 1 points 9m ago
Ended up getting fired for yelling at my manager that morning when I was alone as a ssv working with a torn rotator cuff. Was told by HR that because of not telling the manager prior to working about my injury (was off for two days prior and handling a car accident so thought my manager would accommodate for that but instead threw me under the bus) im currently in year 1 of a lawsuit against it. But slowly realizing it won't matter. And have sense given up on Starbucks as a whole. It's going to complete shit
-zombie-squirrel 6 points 2y ago
I’m currently on LOA and disability pay due to a work injury that took out my right wrist . Make the call to Sedgwick and you can work on getting some sort of leave and doctors accommodations so you don’t ruin it on bar. You have to live with your body forever, Starbucks can survive without even the most tenured partner but it’s worse living without your arm!
happyzeb 4 points 2y ago
i have a torn rotator cuff as well and eventually had to quit bc my sm didn't believe me and would laugh and stick me on bar 1. he just threw away my dr's note and rolled his eyes at me. thankfully, dude got fired not long after i left
MonstrousGiggling 4 points 2y ago
Lmfao I'm sorry youre injured and I'm not laughing at that fact, but the fact you wrote it yourself as "Tyler broken" is absolutely hilarious.

For a few moments I was like "Hmm, maybe they nicknamed their Curtis as Tyler?" lmao. We have a strawberry acai dispenser we named Stanley so figured it was something similar.
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 72 points 2y ago
Super sad they both quit the same day!
sp_c_g_d 81 points 2y ago
Yesterday’s closing DRB statements:
“Weird shift, weird vibe. Weird is spelled weird right? Doesn’t follow the I before E rule at all. Weird.”

My boss doesn’t read them ever. 🙃
jeffs1057 18 points 2y ago
Or they are like me and secretly laugh at all the things baristas wrote. My favorite was the story someone spent months writing on the iPad.
-zombie-squirrel 2 points 2y ago
Lol where did they write the story
jeffs1057 11 points 2y ago
The notes feature haha. I noticed one of my baristas and one of my shifts acting funny by my BOH ipad. After snooping a bit i found 20+ pages of stories and jokes people had been adding.
-zombie-squirrel 5 points 2y ago
Lmao I may sneak in the back while I’m on leave and leave some for my peeps 🤣
ScalieDraggy 61 points 2y ago
One of my co-workers wrote "Can't wait to die" for her scheduling once.
Butterflybo0ty 46 points 2y ago
I need the courage to quit
King_Spamula 77 points 2y ago
I need a better job opportunity to quit
Butterflybo0ty 17 points 2y ago
Feel you with that
trbpanda 22 points 2y ago
if you are financially capable of quitting, fuck starbucks!!! fr!!!! the company doesnt pay you enough to deal with the bullshit you probably deal with everyday. and on top of that, they dont even care! so why should you!!
Butterflybo0ty 9 points 2y ago
You’re 100% right. Plenty of jobs will pay me more to do less and treat me with actual respect. My manager is crazy and hasn’t been fired despite so many complaints
trbpanda 8 points 2y ago
as much as i might enjoy working at starbucks sometimes, it's really not worth it. if your manager is really such a crazy person id think you're better off quitting. the amount of weight thatll be lifted off your shoulders would probably be amazing
RoaringDragonite 32 points 2y ago
Poor Tyler! You need to call out! This job is not worth your wrist
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 21 points 2y ago
To be painfully honest this describes my entire week! Multiple NCNS i have a torn rotator cuff myself! Im the only partner usually until mid day! Having to consistently train/and work coverage at the same time and being told as a trainer i just have to "make do" sometimes! Comming from a reserve bar i have serious issues here but it seems even reaching out to the dm is pointless.. (our dm has changed 5 times in this year alone) so i know im not even a stepping stone in their path! Ive lost it
sheep_heavenly 20 points 2y ago
I'm trying to respond to you but I keep getting absolutely floored by the weird bullshit.

> Im the only partner usually until mid day!

That's super against policy. 2 partner minimum at all times, you can 100% refuse to enter and just remain nearby until another partner shows, paid the entire time.

> it seems even reaching out to the dm is pointless.. (our dm has changed 5 times in this year alone

Hit up your RM. You can call Partner Resources to get their contact info. Ask if partners that quit are willing to email the RM why they quit. Ask current partners to contribute as well. When I had to handle a similar awful situation, I offered to put my name/email as the main and anyone else could stay anonymous.

>Ive lost it

I'm sorry. If you need someone's blessing, you have mine to take it SO EASY. Do not work hard. Do your job duties, but don't "hustle". You're healing! If a customer complains, tell them what's up. Encourage them to complain because you're not being listened to. Any regulars, any complainers, literally everyone. Work is already miserable clearly, what difference will it realistically make to just not haul ass constantly?

I'm so sorry dude.
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 16 points 2y ago
Should've clarified, i am the only partner with experience i have ben thrown into shifts with 3 green beans all within a week or two of training and myself. Making it where i HAVE to bar during peak and having to consistently step off to help new partners.
sheep_heavenly 6 points 2y ago
Oh good grief. Makes sense, there's probably not a lot of people with experience if they quit left and right from the crappy.

I'm sorry dude.
ephemereaux 7 points 2y ago
Super curious, how was the reserve bar run differently? Was it better?
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 13 points 2y ago
Absolutely the reserve bar was ran better. Although albeit extremely pretentious. But it had experienced coffee masters everyone i worked with exemplified starbucks and its standards it was the most fun ive had working for starbucks in my 5ish years here!
square_pulse 9 points 2y ago
Damn Tyler, you ok tho
apartment_town 6 points 2y ago
Literally what's happening right now with me and another coworker. Just the two of us and he has limited hours and i have school.
philosopher_cat_lady 5 points 2y ago
Who broke Tyler?
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 7 points 2y ago
Food trays stacked incorrectly and i caught them and i believe thats what tore my shoulder up.
smilygirrl12 14 points 2y ago
Sounds like a workman's comp claim! You really should report it and get some time off to rest and let your body heal! Take a medical leave of absence otherwise you won't heal properly and it'll be more painful later as well!
-zombie-squirrel 9 points 2y ago
Honestly you should file a workers comp claim. Sedgwick will pay for your treatment and you’ll have ordered time off work to heal
real-3st 4 points 2y ago
At BEST that is a 3 person play during peak.... R.I.P.
pixiecorner 4 points 2y ago
Tag yourself, I’m Tyler
(btw I hope Tyler is okay, and the rest of them too, you guys deserve better)
nando409 3 points 2y ago
First day without mask mandates I wrote “ vibes are absolutely rancid in here”
Razza_ma_tazza 3 points 2y ago
I loved doing this with the book. When it was reviewed they were always like “why does the book say ‘stopped making s’mores frappes Bc we just couldn’t handle it’l
jdivision8 1 points 2y ago
😂
corncob999 3 points 2y ago
feeling like tyler right about now
trash_gamer00 3 points 2y ago
Bruh 💀

I would break down if that happened to me when I was still with the company
Jadenvicious1 2 points 2y ago
Dear god....
darkwolf523 2 points 2y ago
That was my store when manager had to tell half of our staff to stay home cuz they worked with someone with covid. F op
jazzy22jm 2 points 2y ago
If Tyler lies and says he has symptoms of the vaccine he can get time off. I hate how this company doesn't see the constant turnover due to lack of pay and staffing. I'm sorry you have to feel the effects of it all though.
Standard-Pin1207 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
:::::UPDATE:::: day two same dilemma. Got approved for LOA and my SM apologized for asking too much of me 🙏 this is a wonderful community! ♥️
Month_Puzzleheaded 1 points 2y ago
For a moment I thought it was my store, we have a Tyler and a kaysen lol
melodiic_ 1 points 2y ago
me too, tyler
