Any tips... I’m new and I’m always on register or customer support. I need practice on bar. Ugh!(self.starbucksbaristas)

Anyone give any tips on how not to get pegged as the “register” or “customer support” ONLY person? I’m new and I don’t get on bar enough to practice. I’m going to ask the manager for more practice time, which she does give me when she’s at the store. But the other shifts always put me on register or support. I don’t mind doing any and all aspects of the work. I just don’t want to get slotted into a position and not get on bar. I’ve been working 1+ month.

Nights. That's the best thing I can say about that. It's not nearly as busy at nights and the manager won't be there pushing for times under 30 seconds so you should have time to practice.

Good idea!

Ask your shifts for practice time too! Depending on your store set up, support bar when you're on register. And be patient. Eventually they'll hire someone else and you won't be the new person anymore. Then they'll be put on reg and CS all the time and you'll be put in other positions.

Do the best you can at the jobs they give you now. Show them how hard you can work when you are on support positions. That will convince them that you can handle taking on a different position. I made CS and register my bitch when I was a new partner. I always asked lots of questions and listened to all the feedback everyone had to give me. Now I literally can’t get off the bar🥲

I was stuck on register and DT for a YEAR, bc they didn’t want to mess their times. I transferred and got the practice I needed. If you don’t want to go, ask for some night shifts.

I went directly to my SM asking for more bar time, and immediately got put on it (with a support person to help during morning rush) for a few days in a row! If you’re comfortable with your SM, I think it’s best just to directly voice your concerns and ask to get more practice — you’ll never learn the drinks and sequencing until you’re put there!! Good luck from a fellow two-month green bean :)

You gotta BEG for bar time. I did this in the beginning and I'm usually always on bar now (ugh, it does get tiring). It's much easier to get time in the afternoons or after AM peak.

So when I was new, I was in your shoes where I would be out on DTO or register. I personally, studied the crap out the sequenced and after a month I was on bar most of the time! I would just recommend asking your shift if you could get some practice in
